I have attempted dutasteride for only five days now. My response? here -

1) no notable increase in libido, however -

2) VIVID, weird sex dreams, like I haven't had since I was 15. Rock hard erections all through the night.

3) immediate sensations of insects crawling throughout entire scalp

WTF guys? Many people here who have a) researched the f*ck out of these medications and b) tried them over and over and still... not a single answer for what is happening with my weird encounters with anti androgens???

does ANY ONE have any useful advice as to what could possibly be happening? Is it simply a drastic increase in testosterone? and, if so, WHY if testosterone has nothing to do with receptors in follicle cells, is my scalp going crazy?

I NEED SOME THEORY NOW. B*TCHES. LOVE, MUTHA F*CKIN' BUCKTHORN!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing that, it does sound torturous...
It seems that DHT inhibitor and anti-androgen have a very imminent effect on you (were you the one who reported shedding 2-3 days into using RU? ).
It is also baffling that even though you know these treatments are definitely doing something, there seems to be little gain despite persisting for a while. With all these quick side effects, I would have thought you could be a good responder. I hope it gets better,as I like to think I can turn to dutasteride once finasteride is no longer beneficial. Keep us updated!

Some people report a rise in various androgenic effects in the beginning, which gently tapers off to a flatline where they have very little libido or interest in sex. So, you might experience that after a while...

Hey buckthorn,

Have you ever had all your hormones checked? Maybe there is a reason for your body overreacting.

At this point I think you can assume that your body counters any modification of your hormone levels.

Seems like cb0301 and seti are the perfect drugs for you as they don't go systemic. Positive about your situation is the fast indication the scalp itch gives.
Also progesterone is used by some German forum members instead of dutasteride. However it's one of those transgender drugs, so make sure you know what you are doing before trying it.

I would try a slowly upping the dose of cb and see what happens.

I didn't have nightly erections for quite some time, however for two nights on ru 100mg (double of my usual dose) they were back very strongly. Scalp itch seems to get less and less over the weeks with ru for me, so let's see.

Progesterone is also found in males, it's hardly a transgender drug. I have yet to hear of anyone having significant side effects from topical progesterone. That said, I also question it's usefulness in Androgenetic Alopecia unless used in very high doses where there might, indeed, be problems.

This will pass, I went through all these; also prepare for increased libido within a month.

This is good news since you're responding to dutasteride.

I just wanted to get the point across. :) It's one of these drugs where you have to know what you are doing.

I would really hope so. Including the crawling?

One thing I remember when taking dutasteride, it gave me a severe stomachache for about 10 minutes after I took it every time. I think that was my body telling me, this medication is strong and toxic to my body. However, I still took it but luckily once per week. Even with that I had more sides than finasteride. I looked up possible sides and gastritis was one of them.

This forum is starting to become a circus...

Why is that? It's a HAIR LOSS forum. I have LOST most my HAIR AND I am attempting the STRONGEST, most well recognized HAIR LOSS treatment on the market and ACCURATELY detailing my account with said HAIR LOSS medication. Do I need more caps? write something useful or get lost.

The original study by Merk on finasteride showed that side effects for finasteride users were comparable to the side effects of those in the placebo group. It could be that when it comes to sexual related side effects the body is easily psychologically affected. I remember reading about one of the anti-propecia posts where someone's hormones were back to normal after dropping propecia but his ED didn't go away.

Have you had your hormone levels tested? If not I suggest you have them checked and see if you get the usual finasteride/dutasteride response with slight increase in T and heavy reduction of DHT.

Except I've been on dutasteride daily for 2 and a half years and my sex drive/libido is high as ever.

I never really had any noticeable sides at any point, even right after starting. I had itching, but I started as summer was coming up so maybe it was just the heat

btw, I actually did have pre and post dutasteride/AA blood tests. My testosterone was about 8% higher post-dutasteride. My DhT levels went from 20 (out of a normal range of 18-80) (yes apparently I had low DHT) to a level so low it was undetectable (far below that of an adult woman and even below that of a little boy/girl)

Out of curiosity, why did you go right to dutasteride instead of trying finasteride? Also, I don't think overall DHT levels matter when it comes to hair loss. I think it is just 5AR Type II DHT levels and I don't know if there is a way to measure that (there probably is though).

I tried finasteride for a year. It drastically sped up my hair loss, so I dropped it in feb. since I have been off, my hair loss sped up EVEN more. My hair is almost gone, so I am continuing to take low dose finasteride and added in .5mg dutasteride. I really have no options left. damned if i do, damned if i don't type of thing.
