Eyelash/Eyebrow loss

Hi everyone,

I've been losing both eyelashes and eyebrows on a daily basis for 2 months now.

I've had my thyroid checked and everything came back normal.
Then I went to another doctor where I had a complete blood count, which came back completely normal as well so no infections (I think this includes autoimmune), anemia, or diabetes.

When I brush my eyebrows back and forth I see a bit of white stuff stuck in some of the pores and if I try to remove it, then the whole hair falls out and it's stuck to the root - in general, the hair seems weak and not adhered deeply in my skin.. (it's like the white stuff showing is the root barely clinging on or something?) I thought perhaps it was seborrheic dermatitis but my dermatologist thinks my skin looks normal.

Is it Telogen Effluvium from stress then and how can I check this? I read that Telogen Effluvium is triggered by immense stress and that hair loss occurs ~3 months from the trigger. Well, 3 months before my hair loss I was overwhelmingly stressed out by an eye infection. (Turns out I have dry eye disease from MGD.. I have thought of demodex mites as another cause but my ophthalmologist didn't think so because of the lack of collarettes. Regardless I've been using Cliradex wipes, which contain tree tea oil, just in case.) The hair loss also increased my anxiety but I'm trying to remain calm since I don't want to make things worse. During that time period, I was sleeping and eating poorly but I've recently changed that. I have no idea how long Telogen Effluvium lasts and how to differentiate regular Telogen Effluvium from chronic Telogen Effluvium either.

Are there other things I should check for? I do take birth control pills, so I don't think my hormone levels can be accurately checked. I'm in my mid/late 20s so I don't think it's from my age either.

Please help, I have no idea what's going on and I've found doctors to be unfortunately quite dismissive and rushed. Thank you so much.

When you said you checked your thyroid, did the GP just asked for TSH and T4 or did you test T3 as well ? T3 can show an hypo when the rest is normal

Hi Parisienne - I did some research before I went in, so I made sure to check if they tested for TSH, T3, and T4. They said they did and it all came back normal. I don't have the numbers for that test but I do have the results from the complete blood count (CBC) if listing it out helps.

Hi confused ! Then I'm sorry, I don't know how that can happen. Hope you can find an highly skilled doctor to help you find the cause. Keep us updated !

Why don't you ask for a second opinion to rule out the real problem why you are experiencing eyelash and eyebrow loss. It sounds not normal I'm pretty sure there is absolute cause of such issue so go to another good doctor if you can.

Get rid of Eyelash Loss

Hi you you should fetch to Physician doctor and they can test you. Please do not take any medicine with prescription of doctor because any medicine can damage your eyebrow permanently.
Thanks
