interesting....what tests do you have to get done to get your thyroid tested out. I am gonna get it done too and want to know what to tell the Doctor. Isn't there like 3 or 4 different tests you have to get done??/

I have almost all the symptoms of hyperthyroidism so I wanna get it checked plus I wanna get a script for propecia/proscar because i'm tired of worrying about the generics.

Just ask for a full blood profile...blood count and T3 and T4 levels are the most critical I believe. I am not sure what the doctor saw, but he said I have levels indiciating HYPOthyrodism which is when its underactive. I was a bit confused, because I always thought only HYPERthyrodism contributes to hairloss but according to my doctor, and medical literature, hypothyrodism in fact can and does cause diffuse hair loss.

my hairline is in tact...even more so than yours...(if seen your pics) in fact my hairline is more rounded almost like a female....when i was a lil younger i used to have it boxed off...a.k.a. "a line up" and mine is still intact now but there is thinning along my hairline (mostly the middle) and pretty much my crown...you dont have to recede to have Androgenetic Alopecia.

btw, i had my blood test done...and i had throid checked...heck, i even had a thyroid ultrasound...my Doctor is the man..he checked everything for me.

that IS the beginning of recession @ the hairline! My hairline has for the most part always been like this since a kid I just have a big forehead. Androgenetic Alopecia is pretty much the same as male pattern baldness btw i thought? i.e. adrogenetic alopecia which is the hairloss VIA hormones which is one and the same as male pattern baldness...and im glad you had it checked but if you read my post SOMETHING IS WRONG with my thyroid.

Plus im not losing hair @ the hairline...im losing it EVERYWHERE including areas where its not supposed to be lost. I could easily have a combo of male pattern baldness and thyroid issues.

dude Androgenetic Alopecia is male pattern baldness....i have absolutely no recession at all...and just b/c your throid is out of wack doesn't mean you will have hair loss. If thats what you wanna think...then go ahead and drop your meds and take throid medication...good luck.

thats what im saying dude...im saying Androgenetic Alopecia is male pattern baldness which i dont have...YES i have Nw2ish recession which is what ppl get sometimes even if they dont bald...HOWEVER WITH DIFFUSE LOSS like I HAVE...i.e. THINNING all over my head, THYROID ISSUES CAN BE A MAJOR CONTRIBUTOR! i have many of the symyptoms, and to be honest, I really dont think my hairloss medications have helped me too much...I dont shed a lot in the shower, never did, and after taking medications havent...i havent used minoxidil in over 3 months cuz i ran out, and yet I still havent really lost hair. Yet i look @ my head and i still see the diffuse loss. I will probably keep proscar as insurance, and take the thyroid medication to clear me of all my other thyroid symtpoms. and HOPEFULLY it effects my hair in a positive way.

Funny, you just put a thread up saying how the meds are finally starting to work, but now your saying they really didnt work...which is it?

Good luck with your thyroid meds.

very true...I see Mac is still living in denial.

Mac, I have been following your threads, if what you stated in your previous threads is true, then you have male pattern baldness. I have MOST of the symptoms of thyroid problem as well, but I don't think it's the major contributor of my hair thinning.

as I have stated before tho, i dont think male pattern baldness is exactly related to diffuse thinning...i really dont and have even made a whole thread explaining why and even gave photographic evidence of someone with EXTRMELY MINMAL density but still basically a norwood 1. Tell you what guys, i will continue exactly what im doing as insurance, throw in the thyroid medication and see what happens. Cheers.

then dont make posts saying that you think your hair loss meds are working....diffuse thinning is Androgenetic Alopecia/male pattern baldness I have 2 other brothers and they diffused just like I am.

You do know that throid meds have to be taken forever just like finasteride/dutasteride right?

Mac relax, I dont think he was attacking you. We all sometimes believe what we want to believe. I have always wanted to believe that I am having a Telogen Effluvium instead of male pattern baldness, but most of the time reality hurts. I do hope you are losing your hair because of a thyroid deficieny. Do keep your meds before you are 100% sure the thyroid problem is the real cause of your hair thinning. GL buddy.

i think i will get mine tested too mac, thanks. if he says i'm hypothyroid as well i might add some thyroid meds to my regimen, see if they give me any hair back.

lol why do some of you guys seem so bothered with Mac wanting to find other possible reasons for his loss

to be honest with you guys, i think some of you are way too quick in determining that male pattern baldness is the cause

Mac, I'm there with ya buddy, I'll be taking some tests tommorow too, and no, its not because guys like us are in denial, it would just be nice to rule out possible reasons.

Good luck to ya!
