Finasteride - Increased Testosterone - Can I Expect It To Go Down?? Killing Hairline

Hey Guys,

Tried to fit the whole question in the subject line here. So im on finasteride for now for almost 4 months. First two months i had some bad itching and a good shed. Not to out of the normal. At 4 months in the itch has subsided but my hairline is still sh*t and getting slightly worse as time goes on, which i also know can be normal. In fact my hair loss has seemed to increase a bit over non use.

Now heres what worries me, ive always had mild ED. Nothing major but it took the right circumstances to get me aroused. And i also would rarely every get morning wood. Ever since starting finasteride ive had daily morning wood, much easier time getting erections and a slightly (maybe) higher libido, at least definitely not a decrease.

I was honestly hoping this would subside. I was expecting all the "lowered libido" side effects but I wasnt prepared for this heightened testosterone along with a worsening hairline. Ive read test can have its own negative effects for some on the hairline and i think i may be one of those people.

I dont want to give up on finasteride when it could be a few more months before things turn around, but i dont want to also keep going make things worse or even waste time when i could be trying some of the topical anti-androgens.

DHT has a 10-fold higher affinity level for the androgen receptor of your hair when compared to testosterone. While yes, testosterone can be bad for your hair potentially, DHT is FAR worse.

You won't make things worse by slightly increasing your T and heavily decreasing your DHT.

ive read that... but my hair line is getting worse by the day. Im on month 4, should i wait it out?
Imo you should. You will definetly go bald without Finasteride, if you want to keep your hair Finasteride is probably your best chance. A topical Anti-Androgen such as RU58841 might be an useful addition in your case.

When I started Finasteride I also had increased shedding and itching. It really drove me mad, but it got better after a few months and in the long run it kept and probably thickened my hair. Can´t tell you about increased libido, because hairloss drove me mad, so I had to take SSRIs and had no libido at all.

This is exactly what happened to me on finasteride. I started taking finasteride 3 month ago and ever since I have been losing my hair from all over my scalp but specifically from the hairline.

I went for a blood test and what you're saying is very true; I checked my DHT which was very low "8" on a range of 16-85 and that's what finasteride is supposed to do. But my testosterone was tripled to over 900, and before I started finasteride my T levels was in the 400s.

I am still using finasteride but I will stop after reading your story.

Im not 100% sure that is the right thing to do just yet. Over time your t levels can drop and finasteride can act as it should. If you stop now you might never know. Too many people have this happen and adjust doses, quit and add/drop lots of other things. I'd like to see what happens at the year mark. And if no one can tell me ill (try) and wait till then to find out.

I had a pretty decent hairline before finasteride, but now my sides are almost gone. I am afraid to wait any longer and hair never grow back, I wish I can just return to where I was before finasteride. I am a very good responder to Minoxidil anyway so I will just stay on it.
I had the same libido response as you, I just wanted to have sex all the time and I was really surprised that everyone is complaining about how bad this drug is for your penis, but for me it was like taking a v****. I even thought I am taking the wrong drug so I bought another one online and a different brand, however same thing happened again.

I guess somehow my body just rejected finasteride and my endocrine system fought back by producing more testosterone. Please anyone who had a similar response from Propecia share your story here. I will stop using finasteride and update here if things returned to normal.

Yeah let us know how things went for you after a year, I just think if that's how your body responds to the drug there is no way you can change that.

Please do update. Also topical anti-androgens might be a good path for you. S5 Cream and RU arent too hard to get.

Ive read eventually the body gives up the fight and stops producing more test. In more long term studies on finasteride they showed users with lower then baseline test levels (for the most part)

Lower test levels might be regular aging? Like I said, I was shedding like crazy when I started Finasteride, also from the sides and the back ( but not as much) and I thought it was getting worse and worse every time I took a pic until one day I realized my hair had actually become better all the time or at least after a few months. Lol, like I said, hairloss had literally made me insane. Here you have some before and after pics.

Second one was taken after showering with wet hair combed back. At that point I had taken Finasteride for about 11 months and imo the hairline looked much better.

Man I feel the same way, I'm approaching my 11th month now and still feel I'm at square one, sometimes I feel as if it's worse but can't be sure!! This was reassuring, thanks man!

man don't worry, when you block more dht there is more testo because it cant be converted. you probably will have 15% more testo on finasteride. it wont cause hair loss

I still think its up in the air whether testosterone itself does anything at all in male pattern baldness. Especially slowly over time in men that are susceptible to androgen activity. It might be weaker, but its still an androgen.
