Finasteride (propecia) Regrow Hair On Its Own Or Need To Use Minoxidil Too?

I am 43 years old and have a bald patch on my head and my hairline receding on my forehead. I attach photos of my head.

I am currently taking 1mg Finasteride (Propecia) every morning and applying 12.5% Minoxidil cream every evening. I have been doing so for just over a month.

I went to see two separate hair loss specialists here in London, England. One (Boots pharmacy) told me that Propecia on its own can not only stop hair loss but restore it in most cases. They stated that Minoxidil is not necessary in most (not all) cases. Another one (Belgravia Centre) stated that Propecia only stops hair loss, not restoration, and for the latter I must use Minoxidil.

Both clinics insist they are right. I've been given contradictory information, and I don't know who to believe.

I obviously don't wish to go to the hassle and expense of using Minoxidil every single evening for years to come unnecessarily. Therefore I was wondering what your thoughts were on just using Propecia please? Is there a significant chance of it restoring hair, or is it better to concurrently use Minoxidil?

Thank you very much.

finasteride will actually stop your hairloss and further thinning.

Minoxidil will promote new hair growth. You should use both to get the best of both worlds.

It's true that finasteride alone will promote new hair growth but depends on the severity of existing hairloss. If someone's new to it, he may not need minoxidil at all.

Propecia does regrow, however you may benefit from the added power of minoxidil, you can see how Propecia works for 6 - 12 months and then decide adding it. Also use Nizoral shampoo daily or better yet 2% ketoconazole shampoo at least 3 times a week.

finasteride and minoxidil are the best "combo" to fight hairloss, since finasteride stops the thinning and minoxidil promotes growth, as another user rightly said.
