Finasteride: Sometimes It Can Take Years... Really?

I have a new question. Obviously I'm looking for reinforcement. But I would appericiate if you guys are honest (which y'all usually are)

I've heard of three to four dudes who overy a year or two didn't have any results with finasteride, or who only maintained a lousy look, but later on had improvements. Members here have got me to stick to finasteride for another year when I see no results... and actually a little more loss after a year.

So my question is: how common is it for guys who only maintain, or don't see any results for a year to actually improve later over two or more years? Is there any improvement seen on hairlines as well?

A good member on here (Guzam) told me this: "Finasteride should start working in a random time span on every hair on your head that still grows and is not on full dormant stage (the blond, 0.5mm long fuzz of bald people). This span depends on time of onset of hair loss, pattern aggressiveness and time of action. "

How much truth is there to this statement. I'd love your inputs on this as well

Take a look at the 10 year finasteride study by Rossi. I believe it states somewhere in the findings that responders to finasteride continued to see better hair up until year 5. Don't quote me on that but have a glance, it's quite optimistic.

If somebody has more studies on long time finasteride or duta, please share them here!

Thanks @Grasshüpfer.

Can anyone here please tell me whether or not finasteride can halp hair that have undergone advanced miniaturization?
I don't know if this hair I have is vellus or not. It still is black (I have black hair), but is visible only when I look closely a few inches from the mirror. From a distance, it looks like I'm bald in the area. This hair does not grow much. There's some that stays a few mm.... and grows a LOT slower than the rest of my hair.
In fact, most (90%) of it grows 1-2mm and not much more.

I've been on finasteride 13 months. Can finasteride still help me? In this area? Or is this just vellus (or near vellus) hair that I will never recover?

Thanks abcdefg, but really, has anyone had success after two years? Maybe maintained for a couple of years, and then the thin areas thickened significantly enough to make a cosmetic difference. I know it's a long shot...

I've read of a couple redditors saying this happened to them, not much difference in first year but by the end of the 2nd year they noticed improved hair quality. Idk what to believe at this point but I'm close to a full year on finasteride and may have thinned out a tiny bit more or just stayed the same. Definitelynwilling to give it another year.

Sounds about right. Although there is a series of hormonal changes that take place when you use finasteride, and its more complicated how it all plays out in certain people. Bad outcomes are possible though very unlikely

If you're still losing ground after a year you probs aren't responding very well tbh. I have continued to lose hair the 3 years I've been on it although at a slower rate than the first year. Although hair improved up to 5 years on finasteride, that was people who responded well. The percentage that don't respond well after 1 year probs will be even worse off at year 5

Feel ya there man. Went on finasteride for hairline recession at temples and hair went to absolute sh*t first year on finasteride. Lost like 75% of my density and hairline went to sh*t. Sucks not knowing whether to quit or stay on it, cuz sh*t could get even worse if ya quit.

Damn that sucks. Crown balding is my biggest fear. Hair density was thick af. My hairline is the worst off, especially in the forelock area (center) and temple recession, but density is down a ton all over. Still no bald spot on crown or anything, but hair looking much thinner everywhere. Been on it a little over 3 years now. Hair loss doesn't really run in my family so have no idea where I would be at without finasteride. Would drop it, but afraid I would start balding bad. Started male pattern baldness at 19, only 23 now, so hair loss could be very very aggressive and kick in hydro-gear if I drop it.

Also man was looking at your post about your results on finasteride. Don't think your crown looks bad at all. Looks like a normal cowlick. Probs have some diffuse thinning all over though. Hair looks pretty good for 32 man. Still understand the worry tho.

Sounds about right.

Really needed to hear that mate. Could you elaborate your opinion on what exactly is and isn't on "full dormant stage"

I've got several hair that's translucent, some black, but they grow only 1-2mm max.... these are on my temples and I'm hoping they at least thicken if not become terminal

Seems like you and I are pretty much in the same boat.
I'm also in the same hope. Good luck to you too bro

What do you mean "improved hair quality"? Do you mean regrowth, thickening or something else?
