Finesteride 5mg twice a week or cut up daily?

I've been cutting up 5mg into four and taking one a day for almost a year. My dermatologist told me that instead of cutting them up I could just take two a week (spaced out). Are others having the same success with two 5mg pills a week vs 1.25mg a day?

Well it has a half life of 16 hours so say you take it every 3.5 days or 84 hours
first 16 there should be 2.5mg in your system 32 1.25 48 - 0.625 64 - 0.3125 80 - 0.15625 and 84 hours - 0.13671875 mg
but realistically you will take it every 3 to 4 days

now if you take it every day start 1.25 16 hours 0.625 24 hours 0.46875. And now you take your new pill so taking it everyday has better blood concentration levels if the half life is 16 hours


so taking 8.75 mg a week split into 1.25 mg tabs is better then 10mg a week because half life decay is an exponential decay not a linear so it doesn't matter then you consume more because the decay is exponential

I asked my derm about this... well something similar. I asked whether i should just take one 5mg pill a week when i got 5mg finasteride prescribed to me and he said no. He didn't go into details really. he just said i would be better off eating 1.25 a day.

I believe that once finasteride is digested and enters the bloodstream and does what it's supposed to do, it's out of your system in about 4-5 hours. However, DHT conversion isn't something that happens once a day, the way a pill is often taken. It's a constant process, so suppression of 5AR is probably better off being done daily in smaller doses than taken twice a week in large doses. That's pretty much the basic concept that my derm told me, but I could be wrong. That appointment was in April and I was so thoroughly excited to be getting a script for finasteride that I didn't even pay that close attention to what was being said.

Thanks for the advice, I guess it's back to cutting up the pills. My derm wrote me a script for 90 pills for a 90 day supply so I will save on my mail order medication.
