For those who have been on finasteride for years

I think about being on finasteride basically for the rest of my life feels like such a hassle! Having to restock once a month and remember to take it every day. It becomes or has become an important part of my life. This attachment that I'll always have.
I am very grateful it exists but I'd like to know from guys who have been on it for years what their experience is.
I dont know what the future will bring for me and where I might go and end up. I'll most likely end up having to find I new doctor to prescribe it to me and a new pharmacy to buy it from.
I'm trying to think about it like always having a tooth brush and tooth paste :p That's really no big deal and essentially it amounts to the same thing but I does feel different.

That's what I liken my regimen to: brushing my teeth (minoxidil included in my regimen). It just becomes a habit and you don't even consciously think about it.

Also, I get my generic Finasteride prescripted for me and that translates to 100x 5mg pills, ie. 400 days of Finasteride when cutting into quarters. Getting a new set once in 400 days is not a big deal at all in my humble opinion. In fact, this little effort is something I am willing to do for the rest of my life, easily. It would take longer for me to buzz my hair weekly if I were a NW4+ and had to buzz it short or look to be visibly balding... Not only am I not in that position due to the meds, but I am getting better all the time and popping the meds daily is something I enjoy, knowing the fact they helped me regain my young adult-identity. That in itself is something that gives me joy every day, knowing how it was pre-meds for me.

finasteride is literally the easiest thing to comply to, popping a tablet. Even if your travelling your pills will be with you and discreet to use. I can't see how it could possibly be any easier. minoxidil - that's a hassle and annoying. Buy In bulk online. At my current dosage my package will last over a year.

I enjoy taking mine and as long as am side free I shall continue to do so.

I see numerous posts saying 'hold out for 5 not years, there will be breakthrough treatments and possibly a cure'

Go back far enough and they were saying it in 2007 too

Don't worry. When you get older you'll have to take medicine to stay alive so this could be a dry run for you.

I've been on it for 2 years. I barely miss a dose. At times I can't remember if I even taken it, it's like brushing my teeth except I know I did that.

If you're in the USA, go to a mini clinic at CVS. No appointment, it's walk ins. go when it's not peak hours. Even if you did micro doses I think it'll help you. I get Proscar and try to cut it into 7ths but it's extremely hard. Doing that say everyother day might be easier instead of everyday plus it seems to last forever. I would also look into PRP but that is really unproven much like other things.

Best of luck

The actual act of taking finasteride is no big deal at all. What gets to me is actually being on a prescription med that isn't necessary to keep me alive. I am hoping that finasteride will buy me some time. Hopefully we will have a cure or a more effective treatment in the next 5 - 10 years and we can all drop finasteride....I won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen though.

I seriously hope this is the only medication I ever have to take.

Cure, I am sceptical. Can't see anything surpassing finasteride for many years.

I've been waiting on a cure since joining here not much has changed. There are some treatments on the horizon that seem promising but who knows. Been holding on with finasteride and dutasteride what else can you do...

I haven't taken finasteride for years, but I'm beyond year 1 and I take finasteride before bed after brushing my teeth. It's really not that difficult to keep up. I also take a daily men's multi-vitamin at the same time. It's the same concept.
