I started to notice a bit of thinning in my temples when I turned 19. I am 25 now. 6 months after I first noticed, my mother took the pleasure of pointing out that I was thinning in my crown. I went to the derm, this was in Feb. of 1998. He told me about propecia, but he wasn't too sure about it at the time, so he told me too go and grab some rogaine 5%. No generic at the time. So I did. Noticed a little bit of shedding, and then the regrowth began. It regrew my temples, hairline, and crown. When I went back to the derm almost a year later, he told me that I could do even better, and he was ready to prescribe propecia for me. I never looked back at this point. Had almost 100% regrowth. No one could notice anything except for me when I really yanked back my hairline at the temples, or when it was wet the temples were slightly visible in the front.
So the minoxidil 5% and the finasteride were my regimine up until august of this year. I thought there was room for improvement in my temples. Although I was doing fine with head and shoulders, I decided to try nizoral 2% out. After two weeks I noticed that I had some dispersed thinning and that I had lost some hairs along my hairline. I freaked out, bought some spironolactone in mid-August. I feel like I've gotten some vellus growth from the spironolactone in my left temple and along the left portion of my hairline, but i still wasn't pleased. I started using xandrox 15 1x/day as of Jan. 1 2004. I'll keep you updated on my progress.
At this point, I consider myself lucky to have done so well with treatments, but also feel like I can get most of what I've lost back, if I use my head and play my cards right. No one really comments on my hairloss, as it isn't visible the was that I grow and style my hair. The recession in my temples becomes visible when my hair is wet.
It is important to remain rational when treating your hair loss. Listen to gourmetstylewellness.com when he speaks. He and Bruce are the voices of reason on this site. Don't stray from propecia and rogaine as first-line treatments. I feel like there a few great anti-inflammatory shampoos, you will react differently to them than other people will. Find the one that works for you best.
Good luck to everyone.

Impressive regime, fro. That makes two of us trying to kick start our temples! Hope you respond gloriously.
