Going back to doctor for propecia, what else do i need?

If you read my last topic from about 2 weeks ago, you would find that my doctor said I shouldn't start propecia yet as i he didn't see male pattern baldness yet.

Well, what a difference 2-3 weeks makes! I have zero question now! I have gone through a major shed, with no my hair receeding to a showing point. Luckily with my hair I can still make it not show, yet...Still, when I get out of the shower, it looks so thin in front i see scalp and all! Yikes I am mad I didn't start a program 3 weeks ago.

Anyway, after doing all research and thinking about side effects, I am going with propecia, nizoral and minoxidil to start. I guess I need to join costco, which is no prob, i was thinking about it anyway for the gas prices alone! (I'm in SF!)

So my question are: What else do I need other than propecia perscription? Do I need to get minoxidil 5% also? What about Nizoral. I have never seen this at a store. Do you need a perscrip for this also? I just want 1%.

What is the general thinking on folligen verus minoxidil? I see folligen needs 3 hrs. Thus if i just want to use it at night, i will use either or...is folligen so great/better than minoxidil for some?

After I get settled, I feel for cost reason I will have to buy proscar. Yet my doctor won't precribe this. What is the best website to buy proscar in the US? Anyone? Thanks all!

Finally, what's realistic expectations? I have conan o'brien type hair (http://www.nbc.com/Late_Night_with_Cona ... index.html). Yet most balding people shave their head to very short...so is that to be expected, or is the length of the hair unable to continue in the future? I had that buzz cut as a teen and hated! hehe so just thinking...will finasteride keep what i have now (like conan)?

THANKS!

Hi Walrus -

You can find Nizoral in the shampoo aisle at any grocery store. Its typically at one end, next to the TGel and Minoxidil. Little blue bottle with a raindrop on it. Use once every 3 days and let it sit for the duration of your shower.

I'd suggest going to a doctor and having him prescribe US brand propecia and getting it that way, but you can search these forums for ways to get generic finasteride overseas as well. Its not something I can legally suggest you do however. Always have a physician monitor your progress with a prescription med.

Definitely minoxidil over folligen. Minoxidil is a clinically proven growth stimulant. Folligen is not.

Expect some shedding, for the first few months. Expect it will get worse before it gets better. Those who ride it out and dont look in the mirror until 8-10 months have passed, will be happiest with the results. Don't analyze your progress every day, or every week, or even every month. Its a roller coaster, and you will look better and worse over and over again.

Take a bunch of baseline photos and let them get you through the tough days, and help you keep your perspective on your progress. These tricks will help you make it through that first year which most people give up on and never see success.

It takes patience and trust in the clinical data, not in what you see in the mirror. Those who persevere will reap the benefits.

God I hope what you say is true. I thought my hairloss had plateaued for a month or two, but now I'm losing more hair than ever (not shedding). I am presevering but damn this month (7) is by far the most demoralizing since I started. I have now noticed that my hair is definetly thinner than it was in september.

Thanks for the info!

Two questions left, do I need a prescription for the 5% minoxidil? I am headed to the Dr. friday and will get propecia (to start) from him.

Also, when people talk of growing hair on here, is it just stuble, or does the hair grow long? I guess I am just young at this and hoping...and when i am balding i will be happy with stuble/short hair...

Also, what Tgel is it most use? Special dandruff or just normal Tgel?

Seriously bomb. I agree with the guy above. And there hasn't been a single verified report of results with saw palmetto, only tons of people saying they had nonstop shedding. And you're on it ... but who knows. I can't prove that.

Only if you live in Canada.

Neither. Both. Your hair count either increases or it stays the same, or decreases if you arent a responder, after a year of use. Its hair. Some peach fuzz may grow, some existing hairs may get healthier, etc. Its a big mix.
