I am 44 and have been losing hair consistently since I was in my early 30's. It started after my first pregnancy. During pregnancy, my hair would get thicker than it had ever been. After each of my three pregnancies, my hair would shed like crazy. After all three of my kids were born, I went on and off birth control pills a number of times and noticed that when I was on the pills, my hair was beautiful, but when I went off them, my hair started shedding badly again.
After my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, I got afraid of the hormones in the pill and stopped. My shedding continued, but the loss wasn't obvious to people other than me --until about last summer. About that time, I realized that I had to do something before I ended up like some of my Italian aunts with the see-through scalps. I paid $3600 to go to a hair transplant doctor's office weekly for LLLT treatment. After almost one year of treatment, I can honestly say that it has not helped AT ALL. Is there anyone out there who has had success with LLLT without using any other drugs? I think LLLT is the biggest farce out there. All the before and after pictures look doctored.
I am at the point now where I am debating going back on the pill again but i am scared due to my age. I am also wondering whether to start minoxidil but all of my friends who have started claim that it doesn't help and that it makes their heads itchy and greasy. Also, the thought of having to be on a drug for the rest of my life is scary.
It's not right for a wife to have less hair than her husband.
