Hi everyone, I'm Steve, 30 years old, and I've been losing my hair for about 8 years — slowly at first, then much faster over the last 4. I used to think I’d just let it go and shave it all off eventually.

After a recent injury, I’ve been off work for a month and decided to change my routine and give a hair loss treatment a shot. I'm a biologist, so I know the chances of real regrowth are low — even slowing things down would be a great result for me.

This will be my routine, which I started 7 days ago:
  • 5% minoxidil at night (ordered the foam to try it out)
  • Weekly scalp exfoliation with salt + water, followed by oil treatment (rosemary, coconut, argan, olive) — mostly for hydration
  • Microneedling with 0.7 mm dermastamp once a week
  • 2% ketoconazole shampoo three times a week

I’m not using DHT blockers due to past health issues, and I won’t be trying anything unproven like RU. I know that without addressing the root cause results can be limited, but I believe <<doing something is better than nothing>>.

Any tips on how to improve this routine?
Will post baseline pics tonight or tomorrow!

Instead of salt and water, it is better to use glycolic acid to exfoliate the skin, essentially replacing microneedling. Glycolic peeling as well as microneedling with 1.5mm needles activates stem cells.

Stamping with 0.7mm needles will improve permeability to minoxidil, nothing else.

From what I have read, it's a bit complicated. If the thing hurts too much, then you never want to do it which defeats the purpose. The last one I got from Amazon essentially has no needles on it at all but it does still do something and I can actually move it on my face and neck and scalp because it doesn't hurt so much. I was using needles before that could induce bleeding. I am also using Trentoin each time and something called Estogel. Microneedling is especially important for people who have had transplants or scarring. There's evidence that that and derma rolling might be able to renew hair-bearable tissue.
