Patient Profile:

  • Name: Harshwardhan Shinde
  • Surgery Date: 19 June
  • Profession: Engineer
  • City: Pune, Maharashtra
  • Baldness Grade: Grade 7
  • Hair Loss Duration: 4 years
  • Surgeon: Dr Kiran Chotaliya, M.D. Skin – V.D. Dermatologist & Hair Transplant Surgeon
  • Previous Treatments: Minoxidil solution used without Doctor guidance, with no significant improvement

Clinical Background:

Patient with complete frontal baldness and significant thinning across the mid-scalp region. He had a history of progressive hair loss beginning approximately four years before consultation. Despite using minoxidil after self-research, the hair loss persisted and worsened over time.

There was no history of systemic illness, allergies, or contraindications for hair transplant surgery. His donor area was evaluated using trichoscopy, confirming sufficient follicular density and scalp health to proceed with FUE (follicular unit extraction).

Treatment Plan:

After a detailed consultation and scalp analysis, a tailored surgical plan was developed under the supervision of our experienced hair transplant team.

  • Surgical Procedure: FUE hair transplant
  • Graft Requirement: Based on Grade 7 baldness, high graft density planning was essential.
  • Additional Supportive Therapy: Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy post-operatively to support hair growth and recovery
  • Medications Prescribed Post-Procedure: DHT blocker, topical minoxidil 5% solution, and oral supplements

Post-Surgical Recovery and Progress

  • 1 to 2 Months: The patient experienced a normal shedding phase post-transplant.
  • 2 to 3 Months: Healing of the donor site was observed; minor hair sprouting began in the implanted area.
  • 3 to 5 Months: Progressive increase in hair density noted. Patient satisfaction significantly improved. The hairline formation was visibly natural and denser compared to the preoperative condition.
At the 5-month mark, Mr. Shinde expressed satisfaction with the outcome and improvement in his self-image and confidence. While full results are typically seen by 10 to 12 months, this early response was promising and within expected clinical parameters.

Conclusion

This case underscores the significance of a scientifically planned and executed hair transplant in cases of advanced hair loss. Mr. Harshwardhan Shinde's progress demonstrates how early intervention with the right technique and post-operative care can lead to satisfactory results, even in patients with extensive hair loss.
