I've been on finasteride for 8 months (except for entire november..) and on min 5% 1x a day + nizoral for 2 months. My goal was to maintain my hairline, but it just looks like it accelerated my loss!! My hairline receeded a LOT! Im 21 years old btw. I really want to keep my hairline as much as possible, what should I do? drop min or add something, like revivogen or spironolactone? Please help by giving some advice. Thanks!

I have been on finasteride for 1.5 years now and it has done nothing for my hairline. Has helped maintain the crown, middle section very nicely. Dont expect finasteride to work at the hairline, its the one area where a hair transplant is the only hope. Sorry if I sound glum, but just wanted to tell the truth.

well..it really sounds that nothing works for the hairline. I feel disappointed. i'm deciding what to do next but my options are low because im on the big 3 already.

dont drop anything... give it a few more months, as 2 months on minoxidil aint long!

You will loose hair quickly on minoxidil before it recovers and hopefully come back stronger..

finasteride or dutasteride never worked for me on hairline either and in fact now much thinner all over but I think dutasteride did that do now back on finasteride and hope it will get better over coming months even if hairline continues to fade

thanks for the replays guys

I was thinking on droping minoxidil because it really says outside on the box NOT to use on hairline, and i know most people think this is because they didnt test it for the hairline but it still scares me!
I am probably going to buy some spironolactone cream and add it to the big 3 to see how it goes. Again, i just want to keep the hair i have, im not asking that much!

The thing is, if DHT really was the only cause of balding all those guys on dutasteride would stop the process because dutasteride inhibits close to 100% of DHT, but we know that doesnt happen. So there are probably other causes for balding that i am not fighting.

Not to sound like a broken record..but finasteride does not inhibit enough DHT to prevent aggressive hairloss where the follicules are most DHT sensitive..even dutasteride on 0.5 mg a day is not enough.

I would try dutasteride 0.5 mg a day oral AND Flutagel topical on the hairline..that should get you to a much higher level of protection from DHT.

Yes DHT is the culprit BUT even just a small amount is enough to signal the follicules to minimize according to the Evil Plan set by your genes (and mine too :( )

The goal should be to block SCALP DHT by close to 100%..that can only be a combination of DHT conversion-blocker (dutasteride) and DHT-binding blocker (FLUT..or ASC-J9 etc..).
Add minoxidil if you want too. The above MIX is what has been discussed as being the most effective for Maintenance , in the experimental treatements section under MDF Lotion....

Good Luck

From my experiance everytime I dropped minoxidil (since it was a drag to apply twice everyday), I regretted since I would start to shed within the the month and end up having to jumping back onto it. If anything use it for the crown and not the hairline. I hate minoxidil since I believe it causes my face to bloat and other factor but if I don't use it I can see the end result by looking at my 3 older brothers as examples. :thumbdown2:

stick with minoxidil and finasteride no matter what, it is your best bet to maintain what you have. like others have said a hair transplant is really the only option for the temples, and if finasteride maintains your crown area you will have very strong donor hair and a 800-1200 graft FUE with a good doctor could totally restore your hairline.

You are probably both right but i think guys like me are too young to begin with dutasteride or doing a hair transplant. Also, reducing DHT further is not easy because flutagel isnt easy to get, and i've not seen yet anyone having good results with spironolactone in these forums.

What if someone like me with bad genetic history gets into the big 3, plus dutasteride like twice a week, plus spironolactone and revivogen, would that still be not enough?

I don't think age really matters, the whole point is HOW IMPORTANT your hair are to you.
In fact, it is when you are young that you really don't want to thin, because you need to look attractive to find girlfriends... get married etc..Once you reach a certain age your wife will most likely not leave you if you become bald so you could just drop all the meds at that point...or EVEN BETTER..at that point some new treatements could be avaialable..

This flutamide is a seriousely powerful anti-androgen and it works very well, and so is dutasteride, and finasteride to a lesser degree.
In a few weeks/months I am sure more and more positive posts will appear on Flutagel here and there, from people that have used it.
This stuff is not harder to get than dutasteride, just order it form SINERE site and 2 or 3 weeks max. later you can begin using it.
Even castrated men ( zero DHT) did not regrow lost hair, so set your expectations accordingly when it comes to re-growth.
The earlier you start, the better chances you have to keep what you have.
Good luck

Ive been using minoxidil on my hair line and all over the top of my head for the past 5-6 months now... and i have results in the hairline area, so i would give it a try.
My hairloss was more diffuse and not hairline related, but one side did start raising a bit.... and now i have soft hair there again since using regaine which is getting darker and thicker as time goes buy...
I dont think regaine says 'DO NOT USE ON HAIRLINE'.... only that it hasnt been proven to work effectively on the hairline....
