about a year ago my hair was absolutely fine and as thick as can be , but in recent months i have seen immens amounts of thinning of my overall scalp , ive lost a lot of density and my hair just looks funny now , if anyone can give my some indications as to what is going on that would be great :) since im 16 this is extremly traumatic to me . btw my whole family is bald or either thinning .

Below are some before and after pictures

Your whole family is bald or thinning on both sides? That does looks like the start of male pattern baldness to me. Someone else in your family probably started losing their hair at around your age too. Ask your dad what age he first noticed hairloss.

I would go to the derm right now and see whats up.

Yeah man looks like you will be bald one day most likely in your 20s. It sounds like you completely inherited your dads dads balding pattern.

Hairloss that starts at 16 is usually very very hard to stop because your family is super sensitive to androgens.

Most doctors will not give you finasteride at 16 because dht is still really important for you at this time. A lot of physical development happens from 16-19. Go to a derm and check out what they say. As another guy whos dad started balding at 15 i feel you.

So basically theres no hope? Im going to visit my derma next tues and ima try and ask him for finasteride since going bald this early is very taboo in my country and will probably destroy my social life , so id rather take my chances with the finasteride rather than to whatch my hair die

If I do get my hands on finasteride some how , I will be starting the big three, in hopes to regain all my thinned out hair . Because loosing hair at this age for me is not an option

Btw im also doing gym as in weight lifting , will this increase production of dht in my system?

Keep going to the gym. Small temporary fluctuations in hormonal levels make 0 difference in your hair loss.

What country are you in?

Hi Axel. It does look like the very start of the process. See what your derm says but finasteride this early is definitely not a good move.

However, on the plus side, there is lots of very exciting technology around the corner. Shiseido/replicel should be out in the next couple of years (potentially even this year) which is essentially a vaccine to stop hairloss, and then you've got the likes of Tsuji who will be able to grow full heads of hair. Im confident you'll be able to get a decent treatment in the coming years and fill the rest of the loss in with a transplant.

I live in a european island called Malta , where hair is one of the most important apsects on a person . Especially for my age .what about other options in anti androgens like s5 cream or something like that. I really dont want to experience the dreaded M shape receding hairline or have my scalp visible on my crown . Anything to stop this hairloss in its tracks im down for tbh

Yaya ive heard about this research but im pretty sure i would have to fly to japan to get a treatment . Also waiting a few years without treating it could have me almost completely bald by the time the treatments release which i really dont want . I have the worst possible hair genetics so by the next year my hair could be almost gone . I dont have much time . I need to seek out any possible anti androgens to halt any further loss until new treatments arise . Any suggestions?
