I am 24 and in November of 2009 I started losing my hair. It started off as a small little patch directly on top of my head that I had noticed while fixing my hair one day. I didn't see much of anything else the following week or so, I just parted my hair different so it wasn't noticeable but then I started noticing that when I brushed my hair, there was more coming out than normal. I also noticed that the spot on top of my head was getting slightly bigger. I asked my dr about it during a routine checkup and she told me to try prenatal vitmains and switch shampoo. Days afterwards, I was taking a shower and huge clump of hair fell out. When I got out of the shower, the spot on the top of my head was the size of a tennis ball compared to the golfball size it was before I took a shower. I started waking up every morning and having large amounts of hair all over the pillow and bed and every shower ended in tears because of the hair that would fall out. Within 2 months I had lost almost all of the hair on one side of my head and it was starting to fall out in the back. I went back to my Doctor who referred me to a dermatologist. She took a hair sample because she thought it was a fugus causing it...test came back negative. I went for numerous tests and lots of bloodwork but everything came back normal. They started doing steriod injections in the bald spots every 6 weeks which worked but just as fast as the hair was growing back in those spots, it was falling out in other spots. I made the decision to stop the injections in July of 2010 and within 3 weeks, I barely had any hair left. I had starting wearing wigs a few months beforehand so I decided to just get rid of what was left on my head and I shaved everything off. Just within the last month, my eyelashes on my left eye have fallen out and I noticed a small spot on my leg that doesn't grow hair anymore. The dr's still don't have any answers for me so I've accepted the fact that I might not ever have my own hair again and I'm trying to have fun with buying and trying out new hair pieces and showing them off. Pretty much everyone that knows me, knows my hair is fake so I don't have to worry about the awkward questions and stares when I walk into work one day with short brown hair and then it's long and blonde the next. I'm pretty comfortable with my situation and how my life has changed but I still get upset when every dr appt and test result comes back without an answer.
