Studies say it can promote hair growth but then minoxidial is opposite as its a vasolidator...also things like cayenne suggested for hair growth also vasolidators.

So what this mean? And how caffeine work topically?

I just read the basis is something to do with it supplying energy to growth phase.

but are its vasoconstrictor properties damaging to hair growth?

Ha Ha,

Simple...the efficacity of minoxidil is absolutely NOT DUE to the vassodilatator effect.
Yes, minoxidil is a vassodilatator, BUT, the fact who minoxidil work for hair is NOT DUE to the vassodilatator effect.

That's all.

As with many drugs, we don't know.

Wikipedia said:
The mechanism by which minoxidil promotes hair growth is not fully understood. Minoxidil is a potassium channel opener, causing hyperpolarization of cell membranes. Hypothetically, by widening blood vessels and opening potassium channels, it allows more oxygen, blood, and nutrients to the follicle.

But it's a bit more complicated than that.

Minoxidil activates β-catenin pathway in human dermal papilla cells: a possible explanation for its anagen prolongation effect. said:
Minoxidil stimulated the transcriptional activity of pTopflash but not pFopflash. Nuclear accumulation of β-catenin was also observed after minoxidil treatment. Immunoblot further showed that minoxidil treatment increases the phosphorylation of GSK3β, PKA and PKB. Moreover, minoxidil induced Axin2, Lef-1, and EP2 expression.
