How much do prescriptions cost if you don't have insurance?

Suppose I walk into a GP's office and am not one of their regular customers. I say I want a prescription for finasteride 1.25 mg at walmart, and that I've had a proscar prescription from another doctor in the past.

How much would I likely have to pay to get that prescription? And these days, what are the odds of me getting the 1.25 mg prescription?

I think the reason my brother stopped using finasteride was his doctor would not prescribe 1.25mg, and he did not want to take chinese pills if he did not know if they were real.

I was in a similar position to you--had a prescription for 1mg Propecia from another doctor in the past and then my insurance ran out.

I don't know where you are in California, but in LA, there are a couple of walk-in clinics. I go to Allied Medical on Wilshire and for $40, I can see a GP without an appointment. I get a prescription for refills that are good for a year. It helps if you bring proof of your previous prescription.
