How much finasteride to take?

Ive been using Dutast for over 5 yrs...5mg per day for 5 days a week. I heard recently that its more harsh for you than finasteride so I recently changed to finasteride. Im taking the same amount. Double checking that this is correct. Thanks!

Sorry i meant .5 mg of dutast for years and now i just switched to fin5 mg...so itd be a 1/4 of a pill per day? wow, you get a lot more bang for the buck with finasteride. Why is that?

Please someone let me know...i see 55 different suggestions. do i take a 1/4 of a pill or half of a 5 mg/day/ Thanks. I WAS taking .5 mg/day of dutas but now switching to finasteride and i see it comes in 5mg. tiny blue pilss. Im to take 1/4/day? That would be incredibly cheaper! Instead of $40/mo for dutas itll be $30 every 4 MONTHS! wow! HELP PLEASE!

Usually they say go with 1mg but most people split the 5mg into 4 pieces aka 1.25mg. the extra 0.25mg doesn't make more hair. I hope that helps!

yes the recommened dose is 1mg but many people do cut 5mg into 4 and take 1.25mg a day. 7 days a week. do you mind telling me if dutasteride has helped with your hair loss at all?

Hard to say. Over the 5 plus yrs of dutas i def didnt LOSE anymore hair. Cant say i grew more but def didnt lose. Thx for the info to both of u guys. finasteride seems a lot cheaper. Wow. I get it from 4corners...

all due respect, but you don't sound like you've done much research on either Finasteride or Dutasteride, which is surprising since you've been taking dutasteride for 5+ years.

They aren't the same drug - both supress different amounts and different types of 5ar (DHT) and your decision on which to take shouldn't be purely down to which is 'cheaper'. I assume you consulted with a doctor before starting dutasteride?

why didn't you start on Finasteride in the first place? That's what most experts recommend - see if that works for you rather than jump straight onto the stronger drug. And have you considered that switching from dutasteride to finasteride may - repeat may - cause you to lose some hair? Just a thought

Did you experience any negative side effects from Dutasteride?

Well first off no i havent researched. Ive come here. Like everyone im simply tryin to find a fast easy answer. Secondly i never said i got dutas coz its cheaper-i simply made a statement. If u read my orig. statement above ul notice i DID research hence y i went to finasteride...again. see i started with finasteride MORE than 5 yrs ago. Lastly no ive never experienced any bad effects with anything. Obv we r all here toget an answer hence it IS research.

Dude you are contradicting yourself now. First you said that you were on the dutasteride for 5 years and now it's finasteride for 5 years? Hopefully that's a typo.

Anyway why were you on dutasteride? Taking 5mg of it each day is insane if you aren't damn sick and need it to save your life or something. This is why we are looking weirdly at you when you say you actually did research it before taking 5mg of that dangerous drugs.

PS: There is no fast easy answer when it comes to hair loss, sadly.

im going to wager that going from dutasteride to finasteride will not be good. you might lose results going from something so potent to something less potent.

try taking dutasteride once a week, and 1.25mg of finasteride everyday.

Talmoode...exactly. I wasnt contradicting just adding to what i did previous to my 5 yrs on dutasteride. now that ive heard dutasteride is harsh in some cases im goin back to finasteride and wanted to know proper dosage...thanks all
