I'm scheduled for a surgery on April 11th at Hasson and Wong in Vancouver.

I had this scheduled for months and unfortunately my University rescheduled an exam on April 26th (approximately 2 weeks later).

I'll need to start studying ASAP after the surgery to prepare for this exam. I need to study around 5-6 hours per day for about 12 days.

Will the post-op side effects like headache, drowsiness, or itching be a huge distraction? How long do these after-effects last after surgery? Are they usually mild or severe?

I'm worried this will greatly interfere with my concentration to study.

It depends how large your session is, FUE or FUT, etc.

The first 5 days or so were pretty tough for me. The swelling was really bad, I was really tired, and I had pain as well. Getting a good night's sleep was practically impossible.

I had a 4,000+ FUE for what it's worth, so it was a large session.

You need pain pills in this case. Keeping pain under control after surgery is crucial and will keep your recovery process moving along as it should. After operation I used celebrex, it's a medication prescribed to treat pain and can be taken for either acute pain conditions. I found it here Canada Drugs. Good luck, get well soon!

It’s not any heavy lifting so you should be good to go a few days after, just keep hydrated and eat well. Keep taking all your meds, they won’t affect you at all.

They quoted me at 1500 - 2000. It's just the temple regions of the hairline.

Okay, thanks for the info. 5 days isn't so bad, as long as I can get a bit of studying in each day.

If you don't mind I have a follow-up question: Will people be able to tell I've had a small FUE if I go out in public 14- 16 days after surgery? (beyond the shaved head). How long before the scabs and signs of surgery are unnoticeable to an unsuspecting person?

I've been keeping this all pretty covert from co-workers, friends, etc. My research online suggests around 10 days? Can you confirm this at all?

Thanks. While we are on the topic of physical activity, how long before one return to the gym for lifting weights? The information varies greatly online... can't find a consensus answer.

Have you ever posted your results here?

If you go to a good surgeon, no they won't be able to tell. After you wash the scabs off (around day 9/10), it should just look like a pretty clean buzz cut. You will have some redness perhaps, but the average person won't be able to tell.

I actually saw some family members at a family reunion on day 11 and no one was able to tell anything.

Have you ever posted your results here?
Nope, I've just passed the 3 month mark so maybe I'm just starting to see some early growth. I've pmed a few members my surgeon and my post op pictures, including @Wolf Pack . I can pm you the details if you are interested.

I personally waited about 3 weeks to do a light jog, then slowly did some more things like tennis and so after the 1 month mark. Of course covering my head from prolonged sun exposure with a hat.

Hey man, thanks so much for all the info. Really appreciate your perspective on all this.

Last question (I think): When can I wear a baseball cap or a beanie?

I know Hasson and Wong gives a loose fitting cap for your flight back, but I plan to rock a baseball cap or beanie cause I'm gonna look bad with the buzzed head. How long would you wait to wear a hat that is somehwhat snug ?

I waited about 2 weeks, but consult your surgeon just in case, as opinions can vary on this.
