I'm getting a bit nervous and think i may have hyperandrogenicity, i was just wondering does hyperandrogenicity cause more hairloss and will the hair lost to it grow back from it?

I was just reading up about it at this Keratin.com website and this poster had this to say about it,don't know what to think about it but it has me worried, perhaps someone with deep knowledge about how propecia and hyperandrogenicity can help?

I'm the orginal poster -

I think this is a pretty good rule of thumb for those considering taking Finasteride:

If you just have a receding hair line (with no bald spot or thinning at the back), DONT TAKE IT.
If you have this type of loss
1- Frontal recession doesn't look that bad.
2-Finasteride hasn't been demonstrated to work on this type of loss (ignore the annecdotal evidence, which in any event suggests this is a VERY VERY rare benefit).
3-You could trigger a adverse reaction since while you obviously have DHT sensitive hair (hence the thinning above your temples) but probably have low testosterone (hence the balding is very mild). You are probaby going to start thinnig in your fifties. Don't take any kind of hair loss drug to return to a teenage hair-line - no hair loss above temples - (none of them will do this).
4 -How dry is your skin, if it is nomrmaly very dry (like mine was) then you may have a naturally low testosterone level. You don't want to risk aggravating this at all.
5 - If you want evidence for this, consider the fact that studies have shown that even men with no balding (and are missing the gene/s for converting testosterone to DHT) get male pattern baldness when injected with testosterone.

SOme other things to consider:
1 - How high is your hair line naturally? My hair line was naturally high (about an inch higher than most of my peers). A norwood one (normal adult hair line with no loss) can look like a norwood 2 on some people.
2 - When someone comments on your receded hair line, look at thier hair. If it is obviously thinning then ignore them. THey are just trying to make you feel bad because they do. Show them some sympathy.
3- Please wait six months or so before starting any treatment (especially if you are in your twenties), juts because your hair is a bit thinner doesn't mean you are going bald. I blamed my slight thinning on anti-depressants. Thinking about it more sanely now, it was probably just seasonal shedding (it was the right time of year for this). I never used to look at my hair at all, but I got a really stressful summer job which totally freaked me out.

------

Please, does anyone have any experience of regaining the hair lost when they experienced an adverse reaction to finasteride.

Am I likely to have triggered an accelerated male pattern baldness loss which will continue even when I have discontinued Finasteride.

I don't know whether I will try any treatments to restore the hair I have lost. My doctor suggested systemic anti-androgens for a short period (To avoid peremanent side effects). I am thinking about minoxidil until my hair follicles have repaired themselves (But I'm not sure they will ever do this)?

Will my hair follicles heal naturally once my testosterone level returns to normal (I now have minaturised hair growing out of allot of them)?

Kevin, any help you could give me would be much appreciated. THe my elevated testosterone level is putting me on edge and making it difficult for me to sleep. I've had to take a vacation from my job (at my doctor's recomendation) while I come off finasteride.
