I Might Have To Stop Taking finasteride !! Leaving for Military !!

I've been on finasteride for 2-years and I'm leaving for 6 weeks to go to Officer's Training School and I don't know if I'll be able to take it during my 6-weeks there.

1. If I stop, will I loose a lot of hair during that time? Will it all come back when I resume it?

2. For those in the military, what should I do to ensure that I will be able to keep taking it? Should I say anything or should I just bring it? I don't have a prescription and I'm taking Fincar.

Any advice, or help is appreciated. Thanks.

They don't have any right to stop you taking medication that was prescribed to you, so maybe you should look into getting a prescription just as a fail-safe. In fact, I think if you talk with medical staff at the OTS beforehand, they'll be quite understanding and accomodating.

I don't see where there would be a problem, even without a prescription, but better to be on the safe side and get a script. If you tell the GP that you've been taking it anyway, with decent results and no sides, then they'll definitely write you the script.

Get a prescription, and tell the medical officer on your base that you need to take it and they will direct you as to the procedure on that base or command.

Good luck,
Joe.

I would imagine that they would probably let you continue to take it, but it might have the unintended consequence of them referring to you as "the hair guy" in subsequent conversations.

They wont let you take it. You have to get diagonsed by the military doctor in order for them to get perscriptions. Unforutnately the military doesnt consider it a problem and wont perscribe propecia. However.. if you could convince him that you needed another drug (proscar I think) for your prostate then you might be in business..

I hope your comments stem from an isolated incident as it wasn't my experience in the Navy.

With all the recruiting problems my sense is that all the branches would be happy to let someone take Propecia. If they turn you down at first, just keep asking, be nice but don't give up just because some hard-*** thinks baldness is no big deal.

Good luck to all!

Joe.

re:

If it is not prescribed then why even mention it? As far as I am concerned it is just the same as if you were using some other vitamin or supplement.

Do not tell them about it. Discontinue it for the six weeks. Six weeks is nothing. The time off might even make you mor responsive to treatment. Besides, you won't have any hair to lose while you're away.

You don't want your soldiers given feminizing drugs. Just the opposite: androgens have been used during major wars.
