I propose we try to develop a cure ourselves.

Alright, so we all know everyone on here is pouring $1,000's into possible treatments while we wait for the next 5 year deadline to come along and tell us its 5 more years to go. So, my proposition is that we try to form a team of people together and use donations to buy used (but good) lab equipment to keep costs down and try to develop our own treatment. Obviously we would have to secure and keep tabs on the money so no one doesn't try to bail with it.

When the team is formed, they would gather all information made public on hair regrowth and attempt to take it further using their own methods.

Now this would be done publicly by a small group of people using whatever free time they have to accomplish their goals. This means the required budget to keep this going would miniscule and should be feasible to fund. The team will display their progress online in regular intervals for evaluation but not require their methods to be made public in the event a breakthrough was actually made.

With that, I think you guys got a good enough idea on what I am proposing.

....what?

Who in their right mind would even try to attempt this, or think it's a good idea? I'm sorry if I seem harsh, but these things take YEARS to do. Where are you going to rent out the lab/research space? Who are you going to hire to clean it and maintain the cleanroom environment it needs to have? Who do you know that can even research and test this type of stuff?

100% worthless idea.

some people here are already trying this - buying stuff in bulk with collective cash.

actually I think a cure may well come with amateur experimentation

Bulk buys and amateur experimentation are a good idea but he's talking about buying lab equipment

Whoever discovers the cure for this **** will be the richest man in the world when all is said and done.

It'll be something like "pay $10,000 for one injection that completely stops hair loss and can regrow hair on bald areas" and everyone and their dog will do it.

That is a very good argument for not doing what is suggested in the OP. It suggests that a conspiracy by companies/scientists to keep a cure held back is unlikely. Which means there are far more capable entities with far greater resources investigating this with limited success. An attempt by amateurs, each contributing $1000's (read: basically $zero), is utterly delusional. No offense intended to OP, we are all very eager to have access to a solution, but it doesnt achieve anything to be unrealistic.
