I Want To Add dutasteride Once A Week To My finasteride Regimen But I'm Scared

Hi,

I have been on for about 1 year and 10 months and have pretty much maintained what I had when I started, and maybe regrew a bit. I have pretty aggressive loss though. I am a Norwood 3V and I'm 25. I started losing it when I was 18.

I am pretty depressed about how my hair looks so I obtained a scrip for Dutasteride, but I am pretty scared of taking it. I wanted to add it once a week alongside my finasteride and maybe phase into it if I see that its working.

Anyone have advice? I haven't had any sides from finasteride that I can really substantiate. I thought i had some sexual problems early on but I'm quite sure that was placebo.

Thanks

Don't some people sub it in for finasteride like 3x a week with good results?

I'm keeping dutasteride on the backburner for if/when I start losing ground again (on finasteride now). I want to have something I can jump up to

If you're depressed about how it looks, have you considered a transplant? You're likely a good candidate if you're stabilized

Been using 3 x a week for 4 months. Shedding has drastically reduced since month 4 but may be a seasonal thing. Always shed badly from March to August, may be correlation rather than causation. Had no difference in shedding for the first 3 months, no Telogen Effluvium at least. Not sure if it's thickened or regrowth anything over finasteride/minoxidil. I'll give it more time. Maybe 4 months is too early

So you take dutasteride 3 times a week, and finasteride daily?
I take finasteride the other 3 days. You can look up the hair counts for dutasteride vs finasteride and extrapolate to get an idea on the relative gains between the two. Very dose dependent responses, not sure if 3 avodart a week is enough to give any cosmetic improvement over finasteride, but I feel safer knowing just a bit more DHT is being inhibited.

I'm taking finasteride and dutasteride. First month I did 1x per week, then the second month 2x per week, and now I'm on month three and am taking it 3x per week. I'm using finasteride everyday too--even with dutasteride. So far I've lost my left temple completely. No other effects (hair-wise). Don't know if it's Telogen Effluvium from the hormonal change or my temple is gone for good.

Do you have pictures to prove this? I am willing to bet not, because everyone with these mysterious sheds and tellogenic effliviums never has pictures. I am more worried about side effects...

This is exactly how I planned switching to dutasteride and by the time I have dutasteride 7x a week I'd decide if to keep taking finasteride as well or gradually drop it. I'm sorry to hear you're losing ground with dutasteride, you're now facing a difficult decision. Are you planning to keep adding dutasteride or drop it altogether?

If I may add, I had my own dutasteride nightmare. I was about 5-6 months into finasteride only (propecia bought from my local pharmacy) and I was losing ground quite bad, that's when I also decided using Toppik as I couldn't bare the thought of looking like a sewer rat without a concealer or buzzing my head (to which people in the past always told me "why did you do that?" instead of hearing "it suits you"). I first added dutasteride to my finasteride everyday for the first two weeks. I then felt too much fatigue and brain fog, I felt like a dysfunctional zombie. I didn't want to stop taking finasteride since my propecia was genuine and my dutasteride was an indian generic, I then decided to alternate between finasteride and dutasteride, meaning one day I would take only finasteride and the next day only dutasteride. This lasted for about 3 months. My hair loss sitaution along with fatigue and brain fog was just too much and I quit everything for 6 months.
Here I am once again on finasteride only 4 month in, after a 6 months break. This time I decided I'm gonna stick to finasteride for at least 12 months before contemplating anything else. I'm also using using minoxidil foam, and will be adding oral minoxidil as well very soon. If I had to do it all over I'd probably start finasteride + minoxidil right off the start. I also want to buy a year's supply of RU, but I plan to do that after I already have a few months with oral minoxidil so I know what's doing what.
