Is It Too Late Too Medication?

Hi all, I'm 30 (31 in a couple of months) and I've had hair thinning since I was in my early 20s. I've been using Minoxidil for about 4 years now, which didn't seem to help. 6 months ago I started Finasteride (1 x 1mg pill daily), but I don't think it is helping, as I don't see more hair, but less. I use Ketaconazole anti-drandruff shampoo about once a week. I also experience a lot of hair shedding in the shower.

So my question is, is there a point in continuing Finasteride? Is there a point in continuing any form of medication at this point? Or is there some other new medication I can try?

Pictures attached. Thanks.
Edit: Updated pictures.

You won't regrow everything you lost and you might still look balding, but medication will definitely improve that.

You don't need to give up, but I think you should wear it short

So you guys think I should continue Finasteride (1mg per day), Minoxidil (foam) and Ketaconazole (once a week), eventhough I don't see any improvements after 6 months? Are there any other better options?

You got a good head shape from those pics man.

Your hair line is actually really good your just thinning on top... almost makes me think that its not androgenic and hence mabey why finasteride isnt doing anything.

The hair looks quite greasy. I would use keto shampoo to try sort that.

Do you use any hair product ?

Actually yes it is greasy because I took it right after applying some minoxidil. Maybe I should take another pic with my hair dry.

So if in the case that it's not androgenic, what could help this type of thinning?

Also use keto 3 to 4 times a week. Not sure about minoxidil as i dont use.

If you want to make the existing hair look thicker get "megatek" and apply once a week for up to half hour

Should get hormone levels checked also

Hmm, maybe I will increase Minoxidil. Oh I also regularly use hair wax, but I guess that shouldn't make a difference.

What hormones should I check levels for? And does megatek actually work as a hair growth product?

I find wax makes my hair fall out. If my hair is greasy and i rub it then hair always comes out.

Wax tends to make your head sweat which creates a greasy situation where the folicles are probably clogged up with salty muck.

Give you head a real nice clean and use something light. A strong hair glue and use a minimal amount to give some shape

Check total testosterone and free test levels and estrogen levels. You may have some imbalance
Ok, I just oredered a 16oz bottle of megatek. The reviews seemed good. I'll call my doctor up to see about getting hormone levels checked as well. Thanks.

Yeh its good and smells amazing. Just once a week or two max. If you use every day it will dry your hair out to much.

Hopefully your hair will shed less . Remember and ditch the wax aswell and report back on shedding

Might improve it somewhat but it looks like the damage as already been done, you could consider a hair transplant. Why wait so long if you didn't want to go bald?

We really can't measure our life success with what genes were born with. It's out of our control. Just like we can't really be proud of our race. It's something we're born with, not something our actions made for us.

Unfortunately, after ten years of baldness, you might be able to go to a Norwood four. That would be with a very agressive mix of dutasteride. combined with high strength Minoxidil.

Even at that, at best you will become a Norwood four.

So, if those options don't feel right for you, you should probably save your money.

So you think it's a better idea for me to go to Dutasteride? I'm always a bit wary of starting new medication, but if that's the better option, sure. I mean it doesn't look it it's been helping a lot.

A combination of things: My hairline is actually pretty good and I grow an alright amount of hair along the hairline and on the sides enough for me to somewhat hide the baldness, so I've kept doing that. And a few big mistakes like starting medications too late because I tried to ignore the problem and was opposed to taking Finasterise based on the side effects I heard about it. I finally decided to actually start taking it about 6 months ago because the hair shedding got very visibly worse and my hair wasn't standing up to being molded as much as before.

How well would getting a hair transplant/implant work? Would it be better than a strong cocktail of medication?

Transplants are much better than treatments, plus the hair that is transplanted stays there for the most part. Only downside is the cost.

I see. I'm ok with the money it costs, the downsides for me would be the pain from the procedure and the amount of time I will have to shave/be bald after the procedure until the hair grows out. But apart from finasteride and dutasteride, is there anything else to try?
