is Nizoral a must when taking finasteride??

I've been on finasteride for 8 months now.

I have naturally oily skin/scalp, and sweat alot, and have fine hair (not thin). I have temple recession.

Since i've been on finasteride, my hair feels a lot dryer/thicker.

However i am wondering if i should be taking Nizoral. The hair specialist i saw in vancouvr (dr. wong) said he didn't think nizoral was important, but wouldn't hurt.

I've tried nizoral a few times, and got that tingly itchy feeling when using it. I also wonder if since i already have naturally oily skin/scalp, if using nizoral and drying my scalp out will make my scalp produce even -more- oil to compensate for the dryness?

With that said, is Nizoral a must with finasteride?

No, it isn't a must.

If you are on an anti androgen such as finasteride or dutasteride then there really are no other must's, so to speak. Nizoral is certainly worth using though as on top of finasteride it could help re growth.

I took it for the first 6 months while on finasteride, but then after I ran out I stopped using it.. Over the last 6 months without using it, I literally can't tell any sort of difference. I think the only benefit to using it is if you have a scalp condition. It is supposed to act as a stimulant equivelant to 2% Minoxidil but I didn't really see much change. It's worth a shot, it probably wont hurt anything.

Personally it makes my scalp itch so I don't use it but its a great addition to a regimen.

I am simply too sensitive.

I am going to have to say its a very worthwhile addition. They used an anti-inflammatory shampoo in the propecia trials (t/gel) and this site recommends nizoral. You need to shampoo anyway so why not use nizoral a few times a week?

hey ryder, i also live in vancouver!ive been having trouble getting my hands on finasteride.. is dr.wong the hair transplant surgeon dr. jerry wong? i actually just looked him up today.. was wonderin if he could give me a prescription for finasteride. btw where did u get ur finasteride from?? and how much does dr.wong charge? thanks!
