Ok, so i've read a lot about spironolactone and its effectivness as an anti-androgen, about it being a useful angle to treat hairloss- However, I haven't really heard of anyone who's actually gotten results from it- everything seems to be on paper- While the science behind it seems convincing, has ANYONE out there truly gotten visible results from this thing? Or is spironolactone simply something that "has some science behind it" but never really delivers results? Thanks

There have been many posts saying that people said they didn't see results in their frontal hair loss until they added spironolactone. Because it a powerful anit-androgen tha tyou can localize in areas on your scalp, it should have huge benifits in a hairloss battle. I will be changing my regimen to include spironolactone in about two weeks if Dr. Lee gives me the thumbs up.

I'm thinking of switching from finasteride oral to topical spironolactone in the next few months...

Hey

Lizzad, why are you gonna switch? Looks like I started finestride about 2 months after you.

Hi joe, i've had no major sides from the fina, but i, like many others, don't like the idea of taking the stuff indefinately knowing it has numerous sides (some of which may only appear in the long term). Lowering ones body's dht levels by so much cannot be good, that's a fact, so i'm looking for a topical alternative, preferably cheap.

I've gotten most of my regrowth from the monixidil, i'm pretty sure of that, things stsrted to happed soon after i started the minoxidil, and it's too soon for the fina to have caused any of the regrowth on its own, although i don't doubt it may have contributed.

I lost some hair (most of my hairloss) due to anabolic/androgenic steroids, so in a sense, i don't really need my own bodys dht lowered. Although my hair loss tells me that my follicles are sensitive, and at some point in the future my own dht will start causing me hairloss.

Hair dosen't grow back just becasue the gear is out of my system, i waited 9 months and my hairlos got worse, i put 80+% of my success down to minoxidil/nizoral so FOR NOW, i'd like to drop the fina (but maybe stsrt again some time in the future if i need to).

Adding the spironolactone after stopping the Fina is just a precautionary action. I may also consider other meds such as Folligen etc. or any new treatments, but i prefer the topical option for now as the sides are less likely & less significant.

LL i know what you mean man. I havent heard one single person in this room get results from spironolactone. Everyone in here just talks about its effectiveness but hasent actually got results with it themselves.

The main problem with spironolactone. is that it has a short half-life. So you'd have to keep applying it every few hours to maintain its anti-androgenic effect.
