Kind of effect when reffered to timing of finasteride

Hey guys,

I’ve got a short question. Searched the forum before, but didn’t find anything useful.

As is commonly accepted, one needs to take finasteride for about 6-12 months in order to observe an effect and be able to tell if the drug is working or not.

What I’m asking myself in this case is what people usually refer to when they talk about an “effect”. Is it an observed reduction in the amount of hair falling out, or is it an observable improvement of the hair status? I can imagine that the former precedes the latter for a good time, hence my curiosity.

I’m in for the treatment for 5 weeks now (1mg every other day), and I haven’t noticed any changes yet (both in terms of effect and sides), which could mean that a) I haven’t taken it long enough yet, b) my dose is too low, or c) I’m not a responder.

Input is much appreciated.

Cheers,

You are correct in saying, is it much more common to experience reduction in the amount of hair falling out than it is to see regrowth.
Usually based on your progression in male pattern baldness.

When I started taking finasteride over 10 years ago I remember a shedding phase. My hair started out as a light brown color with thinning in the crown and receding/thinning in the front. I started taking propecia and my hair slowly but surely shedded and changed color to a light blonde. It was like baby hair, fluffy and soft. This took another couple months to shed and regrow as normal hair. My hair also did this weird curling thing on the top which I didn't like. I kept at it and stated to see results pretty soon after. Maybe 3 - 6 months. My hair continued to shed here and there and each time it grew back it was thicker and darker. By 1.5 years in I had a pretty nice dark set of hair compared to what I had started with.
