just done a first attachment and I’ve overshot the glue on my head past the hairline so there is some excess on my head. How do I avoid this?

A little is always inevitable but I do this:
1) Mark out the lace line with an eyeliner.
2) Put glue until around 5mm from the line, then erase the marks.
3) Put that much down and then proceed to glue the final 5mm.

It's much easier to judge how much more glue you need this way and you can stretch it a little forward so works well for me. Does take a little longer but I've tried many ways and this works well for me.

So that last 5 mm you just do randomly by measuring with eye only? Or that's the width of your applicator or fingertip?

Yeah bro just estimate it (5-10mm), just whatever you do, don't go too close to the line. The first time I ever did the front, when I started wearing, I touched the line and couldn't figure out why it wasn't coming out! hahaha.

Also make sure you don't mark the lace with the eyeliner when drawing the outline. That's easy enough to fix though as long as you catch it before you put it down.

Lastly when I pull the front down I stretch it a bit so the line I draw initially is never 100% accurate. So when it's all down with just a little at the front left, it's much easier to estimate exactly how much more is needed as I don't stretch it any further but just try & put the lace down without having any creases. It really works well for me. I used to just estimate the whole thing and wipe off excess but it's never as clean as doing it how I highlighted above.

Takes a little longer but it's all so much cleaner.

I have finally mastered this and thought it was worth sharing. Here are simple steps:
1) With the back half attached put the front down and mark out the edge of the lace with an eyeliner.
2) This part is crucial. With the lace down clip the two sides up and then there will be a little at the front that you just clip up.
3) Put scalp protector (really helps with peeling the tape off)
4) I actually cut the 1" pieces into two so use 0.5" pieces here. Dip scissors in alcohol makes it VERY easy. Now take very small pieces of tape and put it a little behind the mark (around 5mm) you have just drawn. Peel off the backing as you put each tape down. After the first it's very easy and you'll have a perfect guide for glue with the tape.
5) Erase the mark.
6) Use the tape as a guide put a very little glue just beyond the tape. You only need around 1cm. I normally add the glue to the edge of the tape then can just spread it slightly beyond.
7) Use the tape as a guide and put the front down just in front of the tape. Don't stretch it too far forward as the sides get pulled in otherwise.
8) Now unclip one side and again using the tape as a guide and ensuring you have no creases stretch the side and put it down just in front of the tape.
10) Repeat with other side.

I do this once a week and takes around 20 mins.

The big bonus here is you use so little glue, so when it comes time to re-do the front with the system on, I just spray a little rapid release on the very edge of the lace, massage it in by squeezing the lace (don't rub the lace with this stuff on as hairs will pull through), then mix some shampoo and use a water flosser from the underside and it's clean as a whistle. On the skin, baby oil works well. This is my usual once a week clean-up.

Lastly with placement when doing a re-groom once you have the front anchored with one piece of tape, taking off the backing tape from one piece of tape at a time on the sides until both sides are down really makes it easy to place perfect every time. Also it's MUCH easier not to get any hairs trapped. Am getting 4 weeks of hold with signature tape and max sport scalp protector on the sides and back! Happy days!
