Anyone read about this stuff on Lee's web site? It is supposed to be really effective and gives hope to us guys who are approaching the 5 year mark or have lost results with 5% Minoxidil.

He states the solution is something very different and does not make the hair greasy, it also dries fast. It has been specificialy designed for those who have used 5% minoxidil for several years and are not getting effects any more.

He was supposed to release it this month but needs more testing I guess.

Comments?

He actually discovered it wasn't stable when produced in large quantities. I emailed him and it sounded like it would probably be quite a while before it's available. I bet we won't see it this year.

may be you have already seen this..

from the website..

21 June 2006

For the past several years, I have been working on compounding a supersaturated minoxidil solution of proven efficacy and safety, which has acceptable cosmetic properties. I was optimistic about being able to offer the 12.5% Minoxidil Solution to treat male and female pattern baldness, to be available the end of June 2006.

On the 8th of March 2005, I made samples of a 12.5% Minoxidil Solution, which was clear, non-greasy, and had a slight amber tinge. The 12.5% Minoxidil Solution was tested on many patients with very gratifying results. From March 2005 to May 2006, the 12.5% Minoxidil Solution samples were subjected, for extended time periods, to heated environments, comfortable room temperatures and to freezing temperatures. The 12.5% Minoxidil Solution remained perfectly stable under all these test conditions.

However, when I began to make batches in quantities large enough to be commercially adequate, utilizing the exact compounding technique as the samples made on 8 March 2005, an unexpected phenomenon occurred, rendering the supersaturated solution unstable and commercially nonviable. Although small samples of 12.5% Minoxidil Solution are successfully produced, larger quantities can not be successfully compounded at this time.

Until I can solve this dilemma, and until I can be confident that I am offering a 12.5% Minoxidil Solution that meets all of the same criteria of the original samples of 8 March 2005, Regrowth, LLC will not accept orders for the product.

At this point in time, I cannot give an estimate as to when the 12.5% Minoxidil Solution will be available. I hope to solve the instability problem in the near future

I offer my apology and I thank you for your patience and understanding.

Best Regards,

Richard Lee, M.D.

I don't understand... why is 12.5% insoluble? Doesn't he already have a 15% with his Xandrox 15?

I've never used the 15% Xandrox, but I've heard complaints that it isn't completely stable either and that crystalization occurs in some cases. Minoxidil is only soluble in pure alcohol base up to 5% and when PPG is added its solubility increases to 7.5% or thereabouts. (not 100% sure of these numbers, I'm just repeating from memory something I probably read on this board) Apparently you need an acidic base for high concentration minoxdil, hence the azelaic acid in Xandrox and the phosphoric acid that is in the new 12.5.
