Hi,

I'm a 23-year old male with very early onset recession at the temples. It seems like most of the people here recommend minoxidil for the hairline. All of the dermatologists with whom I've spoken seem to indicate that minoxidil can help extend the life of individual hair, but that propecia is the only way to actually stop further recession. Do you guys disagree with this? Is minoxidil the best solution for a receding hairline, or is propecia/something else the way to go?

I guess you are not using anything at the moment. At your age, I jumped straight onto propecia and have kept my hair upto now. Only a slightly receding of the hairline since 19 yrs old.

Look at my blog.

Minoxidil is great at growing hair for some. Propecia is great at keeping it. Only the lucky 30% of the population using propecia grow hair. The other 70% keep the hair.

As for minoxidil, the lucky 70% grow some type of hair. But.....majority of the hair is so thin that the density is not great.

If your hairline is not noticeable and you want to slow down hairloss, try propecia. Go to the doctor first and get a check up - blood pressure etc. Ask his advice regarding propecia and try it. Don't jump straight into purchasing cheap generic finasteride first. I always believe you have to get around the concept of using and admitting the drug works than blame any generic finasteride later on.
