I strated using the big 3 aroung Nov of 2009, so almost 5 mos or so now.

My concerns seem to be with the minoxidil.. I started using the Rogaine foam at first.. for about 2 mos.. Twice a day, but I had to wear a hat during the day because the way the foam made my hair look was awful! So I got tired of wearing a hat and switched to the the liquid (5%). All was great! I really liked the way my hair felt after using it... And after a couple mos my wife (who has been cutting my hair for years) noticed a significant difference in the amount of hair on my head.. it was actually working (the big 3 that is). Until....

One day, after using the liquid twice daily for a while, my scalp started to itch.... and itch some more... I also use Nizoral (presc strength) 3 times a week but scapl still got worse.. soon I had red sores on my scalp from itching.. it got prety bad. So I stopped the minoxidil all together for a little over a month.

My wife cut my hair yesterday again and sked me if I had stopped using my "Hair Stuff" because it doesnt look as good as it did.. (uh oh...)

I NEED to use minoxidil, but it destoys my scalp.. I bought the faom again, but I cant stand using it in the morning... its embarrasing... it makes me look worse!

Is it just the alcohol in the Mnox that does this?

What are my alternatives? Are there any good, reputable products out there that contain minoxidil that wont kill my scalp?

Dr. Lee's minoxidil is supposedly easier on the scalp. However, a more simple solution would be just to cut down to once a day dosage with your current minoxidil. (I assume rogaine) minoxidil stays in the skin for around 22 hours, so once a day is fairly close to being as effective as twice daily. The box says twice daily because that's how they did in the trials, it's really not necessary. Try that if you haven't already and let us know how it goes.

Good luck!

i cant use alcohol based minoxidil either, it makes me itch like crazy and gives me bad dandruff

the answer is nanominox.

not only is it easy on the scalp its non-graesy and dries reallly fast. best stuff out there by a stretch.

lol i asked this question too b/c for the longest time the back of my head was perfect. Rogaine liquid was working. Inflammation and itched then popped up after about 10 months on the liquid. Lost lots of hair.

Switched to the foam, and also Spectral DNC. Found out the ingredients in DNC soothed my itch. No more itch. 3 months later my hair is thicker.

nizoral... i rather pour bleach on my head. Im not touching that stuff again.
