More men are rocking the bald look

An article I found on the solution to hair loss:

"12 years ago, Buckley looked in the mirror and realized he had more cowlicks in front of his hairline than actual hair on his head. So, he grabbed a razor and set his dome free. He's been bald and beautiful ever since.

"I'm fascinated with my bald head," says Buckley, now 47. "I always knew I had a pretty good round one. And my wife loves it. She rubs it all the time."

Bare heads are in. Seal. Bruce Willis. Taye Diggs. Michael Jordan. Some of Hollywood's biggest hotties have nothing on top, and Web sites such as Baldly go and Sly Bald Guys offer tips and support for budding baldies. Now, it seems men everywhere are embracing the look, regardless whether they're losing their hair naturally.

...

One time, a student's mother told Nicholson that she thought most men look scary with shaved heads, but not him. He was flattered.

"Before, losing your hair made you think, 'Oh, I'm some old bald guy,'" Nicholson says. "But it's considered such a good look now that you can feel confident about it."

Women interviewed for this story were split on the bald look. But the ones who like it really like it. Some, like Denise Parla, of Oakley, consider it a fetish. "I gawk at bald men the way men look at breasts," says Parla, 46. "I get giddy over it. It's so smooth. It is so sexy. It makes their whole look come together."

...

"When people start losing their hair, the first thing they do is try to find a way to get it back," says Smith, who is 32 and has been shaving his head for seven years. "But the confidence they were looking for all along usually comes from taking the hair off instead of trying to put it back on."

What should we make of this article? Is shaving your head now the right thing to do? Is bald beautiful?

Depends who you ask....

The positive people here will say that's what they (we) have said all along, because we know it to be fact from our own experience.

The negative people will claim it's all bull, does not apply to them, the world is to blame, and life is all crap.

Probably.

I could never imagine myself shaving my head. I don't have the shape for it and just because some celebrities and randoms do it, doesn't give me any more encouragement.

But it reminds me of a guy i use to know, his background was Arabic and he had quite a thick head of hair, yet for some reason he just shaved it all off and last time i saw him still has it shaved. But it suits him anyway.

I'm half arabic, and I feel it is a blessing with the baldness because I can get a nice skin tone, facial hair and eyebrows are good too, just ashame about a nightmare headshape. Out in egypt now, I have seen a couple of guys that looked amazing bald, I swear to god one guy at Cairo airport, very old fella looked as if he had been sculpted, the bald look enhanced his looks if anything. I thought the shaved look would be really popular here but it's more popular in europe by the looks of it. I notice a lot of bad scalps here too, where the skin is totally different on the scalp. That scares the sh*t out of me, you just don't know what your scalps gonna be like.

Ahhh, your half arabic. I was looking at your pictures and I was like, I swear this dude looks like he could be Puerto Rican! I thought you had some ethnic blood in you. Yes, the darker features usually help out when trying to pull off a bald look. Must be a bit tougher if you're the ginger type, but still even some black guys don't look good with a shaved head. It all comes down to the individual.

Yes, but if you were NW4+ already, people are going to see the shape of your head regardless whether you shave it or not!

Why?

Because you are BALD!
Well that's the terrible truth unfortunately :p

@JOE-91, sadly for those of us who don't have the type of head that suits a shaved look, we can only try to retain what we have. I wish i had the shape of head that you described seeing in Cairo, where the guy looked sculpted, i wouldn't care in that case.

Lucky fuckers. I am pure-bred Celtic, which means I am pasty pasty white and very thin. A combination that doesn't go well with having no hair.
People look at me as if I'm wearing boots, braces, and a Swastika armband.

Gimme a break, not all the guys trying to keep their hair are negative....We just want to look good and are not comfortable with the bald look.If I were to be over 50 or 60 then I would not even be worried about losing hair.Dont stereotype people just because they dont like being bald....Hell if there are treatments to control baldness or reverse it why not give them a try before throwing in the towel ? What about you ?,you haven't exactly accepted your baldness and taken the path of slybaldguys either.Would you consider yourself to be a negative person ?

Anyway I am not saying its bull shaving your head....Whats important is that you should be comfortable with the way you look at the end of the day cause thats what is going to make you confident.

I think you misunderstood her post. She wasn't saying everyone trying to keep their hair is negative.

Maybe but from what I can gather from that post,it seems to me that she did try to say that men who are not in favor of shaving their heads are negative.I am not a big fan of shaved heads and I am not a negative person either.Everyone cant look like Jason Statham or Bruce Willis or Vin Diesel or Patrick Stewart or Ben Kingsley or any other good looking bald celebrity you know.

I agree with this, but I also think a lot of us are delusional about how good or bad we look with a shaved head. I've seen so many bald guys who look fantastic with a shaved head on here and elsewhere, but who insist on preserving their NW4s, getting hair transplants, rocking concealers, and so on.

Of course some men looks good bald and some don't, but I think it's very hard for most of us to tell which category we're in.

I can totally guarantee you that any good looking bald guy would look equally good if he hadn't lost his hair or even better. Some women look at Bald men the way some men look at women with big breasts,so I guess it might work out for some but in the long run,it might just turn out to be some stupid fetish.

Boondock, you are right some can look really good inspite of being bald while others might look ugly.

Most of the young people tend to believe Bald = ugly.So I cant really consider just letting my hair go at least till I am about 40 even though I really dont look good with a bald head.I actually look like a Eunuch with even a buzzed head.

Quick note to the stuff up there a bit:

I've re-read what I wrote and it does appear that I'm being overly harsh on people who just don't want to shave their heads, my bad, I apologise.

It wasn't what I meant, but it does read that way.

As an aside, I went for the shaved thing with a goatee for a while myself, *I* didn't like it personally, but everyone else seemed to quite like it so I went with it for a while, it worked out quite well on the dating side of things as I recall too.

I also agree with the thin and pale thing; it's a popular look for Nazis, so if you're going down that path (the look, not the party) I suggest avoiding tattoos on your hands and face. Also, smile more, facists don't seem to smile much, and even when they appear to be happy, it's probably just trapped gas.

That's not quite what I was saying. I'm saying that some men look good bald while others don't, but that we're not very good at telling which camp we ourselves are in. I've seen stacks of people on this board and in real life who'd look great bald, but who insist they look terrible and continue to try and preserve their NW4s.

I am not a NW4 yet so I dont exactly know what they are going through :dunno: .I am going to give Minoxidil and finasteride[which I will be adding in a few months] at least a couple of years time to see whether they can stop the progression and hopefully if they do,I will continue for as long as I can or till something better comes along. If they dont work,I eventually end up developing a noticeable bald spot and we dont get a cure soon,I dont know what I would do,probably get a nice piece or shave my head, get on some HGH and hit the gym real hard.

At the moment I just cant imagine myself without hair.I feel sorry for the ones who are beyond NW3.....Yes they shouldn't be ruining their lives over this, maybe it takes time for the young guys to accept this and probably thats why we live in denial for a long time. :(

I think 2cool has been trying to put a positive spin on going bald to prepare himself for the day it happens to him. He has been conditioning himself to think that bald people can look cool and although a small handful can look good, it is mostly wishful thinking on his part.
