Hello all. I've been a long time lurker and have asked a few questions here and there. I am 35 y/o and have been slowly loosing hair for about 5 years now. My receeding hairline doesnt bug me much, its the thinning on my crown that is always bugging me. I finally decided to take my first step. As of 10/28 I have started using 5% minoxidil twice a day. I want to start small and take it a step at a time. I may add a thing or two but I'd like to see hows this goes to start. I know that I need to take inhibitors as well but my wife and I are going to start trying to have a baby next year and I dont want to start messing with my hormons untill after the bun is in the oven.

And I would love to hear some suggestions on other things to try.
How do I post a pic?

I would always recommend finasteride before minoxidil (for all the obvious reasons), but if you are going topical only maybe have a look at Xandrox and/or Spironolactone as both have DHT inhibiting properties.

Nizoral may also be a useful addition, as would T/Sal and/or T/Gel if your scalp needs a little help getting used to minoxidil.

Even when trying to conceive, finasteride is now not considered a risk factor in males.

The original theoretical risk was to the external sexual organs to a male fetus. This has proved to be over cautious even in the litigious USA and the warnings with regard to males taking finasteride whilst trying to conceive have since been withdrawn. There has also been no reported cases of genital abnormalities form children conceived whilst the father was using finasteride, this include men taking 5mg a day for BPH.

Many millions of men use finasteride.

The warning about women handling finasteride still stands, although even this advice is only relevant during a certain few weeks of the pregnancy, I do not have the exact details, but I believe it is just before and during the period when the sexual organs in a male fetus form.

same here.

#1 and only suggestion: Use a topical inhibitor and Nizoral shampoo.

Topical inhibitors:
spironolactone
Revivogen
Azelaic acid (there are minoxidil solutions containing it)

You have to reduce your scalp dht levels somehow, or your minoxidil induced regrowth will be the most natural of wigs for 2 years.

You can post a pic by going here, http://www.imageshack.us/index.php
uploading it, and posting the link provided.

You sound cool, want to take a step at a time and have decided to do something about it.

All you need is a topical inhibitor and off you go.
