Hi Guy's,

I am new to the world of Hair Loss treatments and to this forum, I think it's great to have so many people to talk to with a common "interest".

I am 27 and have been slowly thinning on top for 2 years, recently I made the decision to go see the "Experts" in hair loss treatments and try get the problem rectified. I live in Australia where the two major clinics are Advanced Hair and Ashley and Martin. Advanced Hair didn't meet my expectations however I was reasonable happy with A & M, until reading the posts on this forum that is.

My wife and I are trying for Children, after speaking to two doctors they have both advised my to avoid Propecia or Proscar until our child is born (due to the "Possible" side effects), now being paranoid as most new parents are I am happy to forgo the drug inorder not to risk a birth defect. A & M are charging $3400 AUD ($2700 USD) and from what I have read on this forum the only benefit they provide that can't be obtained over the net is Laser therapy and 7% Minoxidil rather than the general 5%.

I have a few questions.

1. Does the Laser therapy do anything ? and if so can I just buy a Laser comb and acheive the same results ?

2. Is there much difference between 5% Minoxidil and 7% Minoxidil ?

3. Will using Minoxidil and an appropriate shampoo without a drug actually do anything ?

Apologies for all the questions however until now I have no one to seek advice from.

The difference lies in the concentration of the active ingredient. Growth due to minoxidil is dose relevant. Higher doses seem to result in greater hair counts.

3. Will using Minoxidil and an appropriate shampoo without a drug actually do anything ?

Minoxidil will provide an offset of growth. This means greater hair counts. At the same time, minoxidil WILL NOT treat the underlying cause of your baldness which is increased DHT presence combined with your genetically inherited follicle sensitivity to DHT. This is done by finasteride, or dutasteride.

Welcome on board.

If you're going to do laser therapy I would definitely go with the $650 version instead of giving some people $4,000. I doubt you need it either way though. Propecia+Rogaine 5%+Nizoral will work wonders if you ride out the sheds.

Hi,

Thanks for all the advice, I just have a couple of questions

Minoxidil will provide an offset of growth. This means greater hair counts. At the same time, minoxidil WILL NOT treat the underlying cause of your baldness which is increased DHT presence combined with your genetically inherited follicle sensitivity to DHT. This is done by finasteride, or dutasteride.

Does this mean the Minoxidil will not work without the drugs ?

If you're going to do laser therapy I would definitely go with the $650 version instead of giving some people $4,000

Sounds great, are you refering to a company that does it for $650 or buying the comb ?

Thanks Again
