No hope for diffuse thinners?

After searching through various forums related to hair loss, it seems to be apparent that those suffering from diffuse thinning struggle to regrow or even maintain their hair. Why is this? I've also noticed a lot of finasteride users claim that their hair appears worse after started the drug, myself witnessing this as well. What is the best treatment for diffuse thinners? Is there none? Could it be an issue other than male pattern baldness, such as stress thyroid disorders? Hope to see a derm soon to assess my hair loss and give an overview on what I can possibly do to save my hair.

male pattern baldness is male pattern baldness, no matter what the pattern of hair loss is. The Big three is the only proven regimen for this condition.

I had exactly the same experiences with finasteride. Actually, I wasn't as diffuse as I was since starting finasteride. I wanted to regrow hair in my crown and I successfully did it, but it the success came with a disaster which was the diffuse thinning. Diffuse thinners are very much different from individuals with male pattern baldness without diffuse thinning. I'm not sure why this is... I'll keep on eye on you, if you don't get success after another 6 months on finasteride then I will not go back on the drug.

Do you know if they're any other causes to your hair loss... stress, diet, thyroid??

I'm a diffuse thinner, it started at 19 aggressively in a nw6 pattern with my sides of my head thinning too. Got on finasteride/rogaine at 21 and 3 1/2 years later I'm still slightly above baseline. I'm still losing it but slower. Meds work, stick to them but of course how you respond is different for everyone.

wait, I thought that diffuse thinners were the most likely to positively respond to finasteride? Or am I wrong that I have heard this?

^I don't think there's any evidence that suggests one type of hair loss pattern responds better than another. Individuals respond differently and part of it most certainly is how strong your male pattern baldness genes are.

new here but had to jump in on this thread. Im a diffuse thinner who went on finasteride (5 mg cut in 4ths). Im now in my 14th month with no positive results at all and Ive probably lost 1/3 of the hair I had before starting the drug. Im very close to stopping as well but I read on the forums that some people didnt have results until later. I dont know how much more time to give it than 14 months though. Im a very stressful person though. Im wondering if any other diffuse thinning guys are in the same boat: stress, worriers, prone to depression etc. Love to hear some feedback. And if anyone has stopped finasteride, did you lose more hair? thanks

Maybe there is other underlying issues other than male pattern baldness that could be causing the diffuse thinning? Since a lot of us quickly assume our hair loss is due to excessive DHT, we jump onto finasteride without identifying at other possible causes. As well all know finasteride effects our hormones, so taking the drug could cause a hormonal imbalance, which is another confirmed cause of hair loss. I think for all of use who are suffering from diffuse thinning should seek advice from a dermatologist and identify other issues that could be causing our hair loss before jumping straight onto drugs such as finasteride.

I always think diffuse thinners should look into the prospect that they are suffering from Telogen Effluvium rather than male pattern baldness, look for potential triggers that happened around 3 months before the hairloss started or underlying persistent issues such as thyroid or hormonal imbalances.

Of course diffuse thinning could be male pattern baldness as well.

I was thinning overall and finasteride has stabilized my loss, regrown a bit too - been on it for over a year now. I read a lot beforehand and don't remember too much about diffuse thinning being impossible to treat. Check success stories for examples, it works for many!
