Never used shampoos but just sme mild soaping of hair.and my hair looks great. Now tt makes me wonder, if shampoos do more harm than good?

Has it got to to do with sebum flow onto the hair follicle?
anyone Bryan or S.Foote can comment?

Autoradiographic studies of rat skin treated with radiolabelled Sodium Lauryl Sulfate found heavy deposition of the detergent on the skin surface and in the hair follicles; damage to the hair follicle could result from such deposition. Further, it has been reported that 1 percent and 5 percent Sodium Lauryl Sulfate produced significant number of comedones when applied to the pinna of albino rabbits. These two problems - possible hair loss and comedone formation - along with proven irritancy, should be considered in the formulation of cosmetic products.

SLS denatures proteins, which causes skin and *eye damage. It also can react
with nitrogen bearing molecules to form carcinogenic nitrates. If SLS is combined
with a long chain alcohol molecule (called ethoxylation) to create higher foam
levels; it becomes known as SLES (Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate or Sodium Laureth
Sulfate) SLES can reacts with ingredients to form both carcinogenic nitrates and
the even more potentially dangerous carcinogenic dioxin. Tests in Germany have
shown that SLES can cause hair loss

99% of the soaps/shampoo contain SLS ,try to avoid it :!:

I don't feel people should be scared off shampooing.

It's totally alright to shampoo your hair everyday for the rest of your life.

No outside forces can 'trigger' your male pattern baldness. You are genetically pre-disposed to lose your hair.

Outside forces such as vitamin deficiencies and stress can trigger hair-loss, but this must not be confused with male pattern baldness.

agreed.

Besides of the harmful affect on the follicles SLS has more unhealthy affects.
On a scale of 0 to 10 for surfactant irritation,
SLS is rated as a 10.
SLS denatures proteins, which causes skin and *eye damage.
In the case of SLS, it has a small
molecular weight that will allow it to penetrate through the skin even into the
blood stream and thus will be carried and enter into every organ in the body, heart,
brain, liver, eyes
etc.

I would say the improvement in the look of your hair is due to the Finpecia you are taking, not the fact you have personal hygeine issues.

re;

If 99% of shampoo contans SLS and it is such an irritant then how come 995 of the population isn't bald.
Not washing your hair is gross..........period. I can see every other day maybe. Now if one uses minoxidil and doesn't wash their hair, now that is not only really gross (white flakes everywhere) but that minoxidil build up would destroy my scalp.

Like I said ,it wont cause male pattern baldness ,it will accelerate.
There are shampoo that doesn't contain SLS, I use one without it.

I use Jason Thin to Thick which contains no SLS. Most Shampoos at a health store will not contain SLS.

re:

I am sorry I just don't buy this whole conversation. Every week there is something else (hard water, shampooing, not shampooing, vitamins, green tea, beer (both on the positive and negative side), masterbation etc.) but I am intrigued enough to at least try a shampoo with no SLS to see the results.

More ingredients to avoid in shampoo are,
cocamide DEA ,laurmide MEA and all the combinations of DEA ,MEA and TEA.
DEA, MEA, TEA, Cause allergic reactions, irritate the eyes and dry the hair and skin. Can be carcinogenic, especially to the kidneys and liver.

I use this one a bit expensive though.

Where do you get Jason Thin to Thick? I'm guessing it won't be at the local drug store.

Most Health Food Stores or Health Food Grocery stores. I get mine at Wild by Nature. Whole Foods probably has it too. I swear by that stuff, makes my hair looka bout 30% thicker, especially if I give it a quick blowdry.

Any word on good old baby shampoo? I'd assume it wouldn't be filled with to many toxic elements, and it wouldn't be too pricey either.
