My DHT blood test result showed i had levels of :
1.08 nmol/L with the reference range being 0.323 - 1.637

Can someone shed some light on what this means? I seem to have normal DHT levels but im still losing my hair,

Im 22 and have progressed from a norwood 2 to like a norwood 3 with thinning on top of my hair at the front and in the vertex over the course of 1 year.

Would using something like finasteride completely render me impotent or something since my dht levels are normal?

It's about your hair follicles sensitivity to DHT that causes the hair loss but lowering your DHT levels slows down balding. Most guys who bald have normal T and DHT levels. No, finasteride won't make you impotent and permanent side-effects are usually rare or transient if they do occur.

Everyone got normal DHT levels exept a very very small amount of ppl. It is the hair's ability who stay alive with DHT who is causing you to bald. I dont see any reason for you to react any other way to finasteride than the next guy.

EDIT: Damnit, i became a suprised guy when i saw i was a few sec too late with the post  Already answered the same way

if you get on finasteride, expect:
pros: slowing/stopping of hairloss, cleared up acne
cons: dick problems. and if you have a history of ocd/depression tendencies: mental problems.

i realized how much finasteride was ****ing with my head. now i'm only taking .1mg and am going to start minoxidil.

How long were you on finasteride? how long did it take the side effects to kick in? What dosage did you start on originally?
What side effects did you get?

I think testosterone is a big player in male pattern baldness maybe specifically in the front and possibly it continues male pattern baldness in the absence of DHT once your hair was used to DHT and then you artificially take most of it away. I think T is a big reason in why propecia does not save the front hair or work well there. Maybe with CB 03 01 that question can be answered

It has to be hence why only castration would effectively halt male pattern baldness because there's little to no testosterone in the body. Alternatively, a HUGE increase in T accelerates balding and apparently triggers it pre-maturely in those carrying the male pattern baldness gene(s).

From my experience I have to agree with abc and suprised, It's about a genetic susceptibility to androgens, not just DHT. I was on finasteride for over a year and my frontal hairloss accelerated, i also started to get greasy skin. Then I went on dutasteride and this got even worse, the whole of my frontal hair thinned. I have no doubt that finasteride or dutasteride can work wonders for many, but for those with aggressive hairloss (I started receding at 16) perhaps the vulnerability of ARs to all androgens means that any spike in testosterone can accelerate hairloss in the most sensitive areas, i.e for many, the hairline.

Yeah but its funny how all that is ever mentioned or talked about anywhere its just DHT this or DHT that. There are other androgens then just DHT and men have a whole lot of testosterone so it makes good sense. I think the theory that the front is extra sensitive to androgens means T plays a bigger role there such as getting a mature hairline. I think if T was stopped locally the mature hairline could be prevented. I also think in some cases the front could be made by worse by propecia by lowering DHT and raising the T if you had good hair in front to begin with it could accelerate because T is more important there then DHT.
You would think 20 years after propecia there would be some kind of studies comparing say front hair like in a juvenile hair line verses say the crown hair to compare receptors, androgen affinity to receptors, and that kind of thing there might be some differences between the front and crown involving more then DHT
I think CB 03 01 supposedly interferes with both T and DHT at the receptors so maybe that will answer the question if it ever makes it through trials so we can see just important testosterone really is in different places on a man's head
