Alright guys, I have been around this place for about 6 months, so it is about time I share my hair loss story with you guys. I will keep it as brief as possible and get right to the point. I am 37 years old. I first noticed my hair loss at about 22/23. I knew exactly what it was at the time. I didn't think it was a mature hairline or some garbage like that. I have hair loss in my family and knew I was screwed.

Fast forward a couple of years and I went to see my doctor to find out if there was anything I could do. The waste of skin went on to tell me that most guys will deal with hair loss at some time and that there was really nothing that I could do. He went ahead and said: "look, it's even happening to me". The dude was in his 50's, I was in my 20's! I took his word for it and didn't think there was anything I could do.

By my late 20's my hair was gone beyond styling so I started buzzing my head. I went right to a #3 clipper. I buzzed my hair every couple of weeks and lived with it. I wasn't happy at all with my appearance but what the hell could I do?

Finally last year, I saw the top of my head on a video and was shocked at the extent of my hair loss. I could see the full Norwood 6 pattern. I couldn't believe that my hair had gotten that bad. Ever since buzzing my head I never really looked at my hair, so this was a pretty big surprise to me.

The very next day my hair loss battle began. I bought a six month supply of minoxidil foam. I also started researching hair loss on the internet and was surprised at everything I found. I found that treatments aren't the best, but there are things available that may work. The next thing I did was make a Dr's appointment. I will spare you all the details, but after pushing him a bit, I was able to get a prescription for finasteride. I have been on finasteride and minoxidil ever since.

Here are my pics. First pics are base line. The second are at 6 months(finasteride). The last were taken in June at 12 months(finasteride).

I like that the angle at which the pictures are taken and the length of the hair is the same in every picture.

It makes it really clear that those are solid results. Congrats!

You still using minoxidil?
I honestly thought it would have improved more from 12 months of being on propecia and minoxidil.

Thank you. Yeah I cut my hair down to a #2 every couple of weeks. I usually take pictures the same day I buzz it down.

Yes I am still using minoxidil. I have been losing hair for over 15 years. There is only a certain amount of recovery that you can expect to make after such a long time. Another classic case of somebody that just waited too long to start treating hair loss. Realistically I have gotten more than I expected.

are you considering a hair transplant for whatever finasteride doesn't fill in

I wasn't at first, but lately I have been considering maybe something to fill in the hairline.

did you get sexual side effects?

Yeah, slight ball ache the first few weeks. But to be honest, I had felt something similar in the past. May have been the finasteride, maybe not??? Since then, nothing.

wow, nice results. I honestly didn't think finasteride was that powerful.

I think it just varies from person to person. For some it may work wonders, some may stabilize, for others it may appear to not do much at all. I just wish I would have gotten on it sooner, but oh well. Hopefully laser will give me a bit of a boost.

Congrats with the results! Are you going to let it grow anytime soon then?

I might grow it out a bit after the summer. For the next 3 months we will be getting temps above 100 consistently so I don't mind keeping it short. Styling options are still pretty limited, but we will see.

Needless to say, excellent results. Don't be afraid to grow you hair out a bit even in the summer. You hair actually helps keeps your scalp cool by blocking light. If you want proof, sit out in the sun a few minutes and then touch the top of you head. You'll be amazed at how much heat your hair holds that would have otherwise been absorbed by your skin. If that's too much to do, just look at the bald guy with beads of sweat running down his face.

I use to pretty consistently buzz my head with a 1. I always had dry scalp. Now that I've grown my hair out for the last 5 weeks or so, my scalp is no longer dry. What's good for you scalp, is good for your hair so having longer hair may be better for your hair.

I understand what you are saying, but it is just a lot easier to treat it while it is shorter. Maybe in a few months though?

I have shoulder length hair, and the worst hotness I experience is when I don't keep it in a ponytail and my neck gets sweaty. My actual head doesn't get hot. But it can be bothersome when it's long but not long enough to ponytail it.
