Hi everyone,

I wanted to post an update now that I've just passed my one year point for starting finasteride. I have not tried minoxidil (yet), although I have been using Nizoral 2-3 times per week for the past year. I wanted to see if finasteride+nizoral was enough rather than start minoxidil also and not know which one helps the most.

Results

  • TBH, can't really say I've noticed increased growth. Sometimes when I look at pictures of myself from a year ago (will post below), it looks like I have more hair. But it could just be the lighting differences in the pictures/type or shampoo or any of those things.
  • It seems my hair loss has stopped (or slowed significantly). I lost way more hair in the year prior to taking finasteride than I did in this past year. I do worry that finasteride will suddenly stop working one day or that I'm still thinning very slowly.
  • The itchiness on my scalp (especially strong in the thin areas) did NOT subside on finasteride.

Side effects
  • Had an aching sensation in the penis/testicle area for the first couple weeks of taking it, but then it subsided.
  • Noticed a moderate loss of libido in the first month of taking it, but this also subsided.
  • Had no ED / trouble with orgasm / no other sexual sides other than the one month of moderate libido loss.
  • Noticed stinging pain in the breast/nipple area. This still comes back periodically and my doctor noticed that my nipples kind of had a puffy/swollen look. They are definitely bigger than they were before (but not by too much) and they did not continue to grow after the first couple months. However, the stinging/aching pain still comes and goes randomly.

Some days it looks like there's an improvement, other days it seems like its still thinning. Depending on the pics/lightning I really cant tell sometimes. If there is an improvement its definitely meager, but I think I can conclude that my loss has stopped for now. I'm sorry for the blurriness in some of the pics but its the best I can do right now.

Any opinion on these results and on whether its worth adding minoxidil at this point?

Thank you :)

There seems to be an improvement in the quality of your hair, or maybe it's just cleaner in the second set of pics.

seems like you've stopped your hair from any significant recession, looks good!

finasteride gave me mild gyno, which is annoying because it's not bad enough to justify surgery - but bad enough to annoy me.
