Pictures Vs. Mirror

The panic over my hair really started after I took some photos of myself. Yeah, my hair looks thin in the mirror, but tolerable and not all too bad.

In pictures it looks worse. It's like there is a big different between photos (with flash) and what I see in the mirror.

I am not sure which is the more accurate view. I look like I have less hair in photos.

the difference between the mirror and photos is mainly the contrast. In pictures particularly digital pictures, the lighter colours become lighter and the darker colours become darker.

this makes areas with scalp showing appear white, make thinning spots look thinner than they actually are.

Pictures are accurate depictions though, it depends on the quality of the camera, your bathroom may have poor lighting, I suggest you try some Toppik, it's a wonderful product, and will solve this issue...

I'd really hate to resort to that. I am into Metal, you know? Long hair has/is such a part of my identity. The thing that bothers me about a product like Toppik is that is seems kind of deceitful. Being into Metal and having long hair, any girl who'd find me attractive, is most likely going to like long hair. I feel like I'd be tricking them into thinking I have this nice long hair, but really it's a concealer.

Ever notice how you always just seem to look better period in the mirror vs in pictures???

I've always thought I look better in the mirror than I do in pictures for some reason, and I'm not referring to my hair at all.

There's something about the mirror that just seems to bring out our best features.

Perhaps all of us just look better backwards....

It's the movement. It's easier to pick out flaws in a picture. I think I look better in videos

I've come to the conclusion there is no one "true" picture of what your hair looks like..flash, room lighting, contrast all make a difference..I think the best thing we can do is take regular pictures of our hair and try to get the same conditions in each of them so a proper comparison can be done - its easier said than done of course..how many studies have we seen where the pictures that supposedly show differences have serious flaws when scrutinized?

Oh and if you really want to scare yourself take a picture of your hair when wet, with a flash and in a bathroom with white tiles... :sobbing:

I just took a flash photo before in a room with good lighting & was wondering what the darker areas represent? I might be thinking more into this but I have brown hair and noticed some darker patches on top...was wondering if this darker patch could be an area that is less denser & maybe a thinner area?

Thanks.

I took this picture without flash in a low lit room near the light.

Based on this photo, where would I be on the Norwood scale?

I'm not too trained on deciding NWs but I would say that you were still a 1. Your hairline in the front looks good & it looks like you split your hair and you are bound to see scalp.

The reason we look better in the mirror is because we as ourselves are used to our reflection and since the face is not perfectly symetrical when we look at the pictures we tend to look worse in our opinion.

There was a study done to explain it and that was the conclusion

It's really hard to say as your hair is so long it is hiding your hairline, perhaps this was what you were going for?
