i know everyone will respond to meds differently. but if im lucky and get a good response, what can i expect with my hair? im a diffuse thinner (diffuse pattern alopecia, DPA) so i have alot of miniaturised hair all over my scalp but no receding hairline. will this hair thicken up and make a significant difference once dht is gone in afew grow cycles? in your opinion or by experience, just by looking at the picture do you think i could at least cover the widening part of my scalp
thank you any advice would really really help me out

Hey man. I don't know why no one has responded to your post yet, or welcomed you in. I'm not one of the more knowledgeable people on here but I would say there's a good chance you might be able to thicken up/ regain some density. It seems that diffuse thinners (such as myself also) respond pretty well, from what I have heard.

The catch is that a lot of people say that finasteride can responsible for adverse side effects. Which i'm sure you're aware. I know that I think I was responding to finasteride rather well hair-wise, but I just had to stop taking it due to sides. So, you better consider this before you start. Also, I think it's real important to consider you are only 18. finasteride inhibits an enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT (a very powerful androgen, much more powerful than testosterone) and DHT is responsible for the development of male characteristics. So, it can be even more dangerous to take at a younger age. And, many feel it can cause serious issues at any age.

I know how much that sucks. The thing that can help also causes other issues potentially. I'm sure other will chime in about how they feel about that.

Good luck man. Let me know if I can help anyway but just remember i'm a new user too and also trying to understand all this.

britcoin; You will never know what you could do without trying... You have significant male pattern baldness changes already. Still, you are young and the changes happened fairly recently for you (I presume) in a diffuse thinning/crown pattern. These are all markers for someone who might respond well to available treatments... As aggressive as your pattern is, I would suggest that if you want to try to reclaim some hair that you get aggressive early on with an finasteride and topical minoxidil twice a day, with nizoral shampoo every 2-3 days... Then give it 6-12 months and re-evaluate. It takes time (for most) to know if they will respond. Good luck

this, this, and this op

dont listen to the fear mongerers, finasteride has a 98 percent change of giving no sides

remember, the ones with sides are the ones who complain and the ones with no sides are the ones who dont (of course). forums are full of paranoid ****s who will skew your perception of the situation

get on finasteride, rogaine 2x a day and nizoral 2x a week, come back in 6 months and theres a very very good chance there will be significant regrowth, diffusers tend to respond well to medication

Finasteride is only to stop hair loss. If you want any regrowth you have to boost your regimen with minoxidil or something else. Usually just using one hair loss treatment will not be enough to regrow hair
