Prolonged Stress And Hair Loss On Left Temple?

Hey, guys ( :

So recently, I went to get my haircut and noticed my left temple receding. This was particularly shocking for a few reasons. For one thing, I didn't notice this when I got my hair cut like 1 1/2 or 2 months ago. Also, the right side is still very thick and I haven't lost a hair. I'm about to turn 31, by the way.

Here is some other information about my background. My family all has very thick hair and my father died pretty young at 65 but he had really, really thick hair with no noticeable loss. Another thing about me is that I have crippling depression and anxiety and I've been particularly stressed out over the past year to year and a half or so(Yeah, I know that's a long time, haha). Typically, I take great care of myself but since becoming more depressed lately, I haven't kept up proper exercise or nutrition so I'm getting back on track. My appetite is nonexistent as well(I'm eating enough/healthy now though). Thyroid and testosterone are normal.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Should I just say goodbye to my hairline or could it be stress? Should I start on the treatments in the forums immediately? In the meantime, I'm going back to my psychiatrist for the depression and possibly a dermatologist.

My horror story started with my left temple as well. It's still worse than my right at this point, however both are tremendously awful at this point.

One is always worse than the other.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I think I'm coming to terms with starting to lose my hair at this point. It's still strange to me that the other side is completely intact though. I wonder when the other side will start receding...

I don't think you are losing hair tbh, maybe a fraction at the temples. You have a perfect hairline IMO, seriously it is f*****g awesome. So many people on here would f*****g kill for that hairline. Keep an eye on it but I doubt you will see it progress much if at all given your family history,

You're 30 and have better hair than me and I'm 19, so f*****g unfair.
Tbh I don't even think you are losing hair and its just normal hairline at your age, sh*t maybe even a borderline juvenile hairline

Thank you guys for the answers. I don't really want to waste anyone's time so it's greatly appreciated. It was just strange how fast I lost that little bit of hair. it looked just like the right side about 2 months ago. It's most likely a maturing hairline but I figured I would see what people think.

If it were anywhere else but the temple, I would assume it was from stress. I have been off of anti-anxiety/depression meds for almost a year so I can't blame that. I probably should be on some though, haha. But anyway, time will tell.

Imo, it is not unusual, that one side is worse than the other. For me it is the right one, whick looks absolutly disgusting. Sadly, your other side might follow soon :( Are you sure it happened within 2 months? Maybe you just didn´t notice it before.

Nevertheless, if you are worried, you could start Finasteride and be safe. Good Luck, mate!

I believe it did. Last time I got my haircut I didn't notice anything. This time it was very noticeable. When it grows out, I probably won't be able to see it at all. Next time I get my hair cut is probably going to be the real indicator. As far as Finasteride goes, I'm extremely paranoid about taking it because I've heard that there are risks of permanent side effects like impotence! I would gladly trade my hair to save a lifetime of boners, know what I'm sayin'?

That's the same with my hairline. My right temple is a Norwood 3.5. My left is a Norwood two. It's actually 2.5 cm (or
1 inch, blackg) further receded on my right temple. I think that's normal.

That said, I think the OP should start finasteride and Minoxidil right away. There's only so much time.

For now, you have a choice. Down the road, if you don't medicate, you're not gonna have one.

Doesn't Finasteride have a chance of giving you permanent sexual dysfunction? I've heard really bad things. Would I have a lot of success with just the other two treatments?

If you really think you are thinning and would like to save your hair, propecia is ur best chance, the other 2 treatments offer very little results. Although some people can't tolerate propecia and suffer from sides, like me. Hence I don't take em

When do you have birthday. The same age as me and your hair looks like mine.
I used finasteride (no improvement), I stopped it (no shedding).
You can still use finasteride (1 month test) and check if you have side effects.

My birthday? January, 14. I will be 31. Yeah, I just might try it.

Your hair looks similar to mine, except I have fine straight hair, and a lot of the knowledgeable people on this forum said I haveno hair loss. For 31 your hair looks phenomenal, I'm pretty sure like 85% of men have "hair loss" (slight temple recession) by 35. Its normal!

Thank you for the input. I think(and hope) you could be right. My dad past away young at 65 and his hairline went back slightly too but his hair was quite thick his whole life. It just gave him more of a "fivehead" kind of look.

In my opinion you shouldn't pay attention to the guys telling you your other temple will follow, unless of course they have a crystal ball.

I've had one side way worse than the other for as long as I can remember, started to notice it at around 17 I think, and now many years later it's still pretty much the same. There's a possibility your hairline may have always been like this but you're just now starting to notice it. Obviously it depends on you, there's a chance your other temple may follow, but if there's no hair loss in your family it is unlikely.

P.s. The majority of the people on this forum would absolutely love to have/have had your head of hair at 31 years old. And also this is off topic but frequent exercise does wonders for depression/anxiety.

If you hair doesn't go back by the time your 65 it's almost weird! A 65 year old man will pretty much always be at least NW2. And let's say you get a hair transplant at an older age, the doctor usually won't make you an NW1 bc it looks funny on a senior citizen
