Hi y'all
Just wanted to share my experince with the "big 3" so far. Just for keeping the motivation up for some people. Sorry for my bad english..
Background: Being a diffuse thinner i've been losing hair for a couple of years,. A lot lost after shower, in the bathtub and so on.
Well, last year it got to the point where the scalp on top/back started to be seen, and also my hairline was going away, at least for the templates area.
So as you can see from my regimen, i started with using Propecia in march 03.
and.. after about a month the shedding got worse... and worse.
I lost so much hair i thought i would be bald in no time.
But i kept on taking the Propecia althrough the summer.
The shedding continued up until month 5.. and then stopped almost in one day to another, to the point where i would have like 1 -3 hairs lost in the shower.
A this point i also included some Nizoral and minoxidil 2 to my regimen.
Now at this point., i've regrown quite a lot of hair in top/back (just at bit thin, but not really too notice able), whereas the templates are also starting to fill in (probaly due to minoxidil) with a lot of "peach fuzz".
Overall thickness has greatly improved to the point where i have a "punk haircut" and it's looks good. As it is now, somedays i shed quite alot, some day almost nothing.
As for unwanted sexual effects. Well, i had some embarrising moments after about the first month... but that's all gone now. Actually i think it was quite a bit of "mind trick" now in afterhand.

So with this i just wanted to say that even if it's doesn't seem to work in the beginning.don't give up. For me it's been a good success so far...
I''try to put up some pictures at the 1 year mark.

thanks for sharing tooearly. Sounds like Propecia is working for you the shed from what Ive heard is hirs you should have lost anyway. Ive been on propecia for little over six months and nothing but sheds( dont know if its just orinary hairlosss or from Propecia or minoxidil.) . But I will stick to it for at least a year. I feel that Ive had sexual side effects but not as strong as in the beginning anymore.. Feels im almost back to normal.. which isnt always a good thing. :p

Be sure to share youre ongoing progression

id really like someone to try and clear this up for me..sheds while on propecia..r these caused by taking propecia? how bad r these sheds people have experienced? how many people experience sheds? and after the shed did ur hair loss slow or did ur hair grow back better than it was before the shed?

a shed is a good thing. First off, not everyone gets a shed. If you do happen to get a legitimate shed, then you will eventually experience regrowth. The problem with sheds is that you do not know if you are experiencing a shed or if you are just naturally losing more hair. Its almost impossible to tell.

Polling ppl here about sheds would be pointless. male pattern baldness does not mean you lose the same amount of hair everyday. Some days i lose much more hair then others. People sometimes just cant tell the difference between a shed and natural loss.

Take propecia though if you want to stop hairloss. IT wont make u lose hair faster despite what ppl say and worse case scenario is that it just flat out doesnt work for you, in which case you are back to where u started.

I never expereinced sheds or saw hair in the sink or the tub or the bed. Yet my hair was just disappearing off the top of my head. Go figure.

I wish I did have sheds to alarm me in the first place.

from ur experience do many people regrow without a shed? and the thing i dont get is this..regrowing after a shed..do u lose hair then start regrowing from the point where u were at the end or beginning of the shed? also, with a "legitimate" shed, how much loss do most people experience..noticeable to someone else? thanks.

my biggest advice to someone who's just starting out with treating hairloss, it would be this...have realistic expectations. the only thing you should and can count on is that propecia and/or rogaine will slow your hairloss down. they are not cures, they are not the magical regrowth formula, they simply slow the process down. have realistic expectations and you will be happy with your results, if you hype your expectations up, you will be unhappy.

well, if you don't get a shed and simply stop the hairloss over the coarse of the 8 months then don't worry. If you do get sheds, then rest assured that 99% of the time the hair lost will come back in thicker and stronger then before. It is different for everyone, and honestly you are over-analyzing this. I would highly recommend just staying on the treatment and riding it out, shed or not.
