hello all.
I currently take saw palmetto as part of my supplements and am considering the move to Propecia. Is there anyone out there that takes both of these? Would it mke a 2 pronged attack against the whole DHT thingy or would it be counter productive for any reason? Also, I havn't had any side effects from the saw palmetto, is that any sort of indication that I might not with he propecia?
Would appreciate your thoughts and comments.
Thanks.

No, saw palmetto is a herbal extract whereas propecia is a chemical.

I don't think adding propecia would be counter productive. A trichologist suggested I do it.

Is saw palmetto any good? I'm thinking of coming off finasteride due to constant shedding?

Thanks for your comments dimitar,

Its hard to say if the Saw Palmetto did good for me or not really, when i first stared my supps as listed in the Tell your storey section i had v good results, the fall stopped and the hair felt much better, it even looked as if there was new growth, but as i wrote in the post the results started to decline and I'm back on the same path as before, slowly losing, i'm not sure if it lost its effectiveness, weather the creatine and training had anything to do with it or if it was just a good spell in the hair cycle after a break from taking anything at all. Im also thinking of uping the dose of Saw Palmetto to see if that does any good, I dont think a recommended max RDA has been established for S.P, needless to say I'm just about pi££ed off with the whole thing now and I'm looking into the route of propecia, but I'm just concerned with the whole shedding thing. good luck to you anyway, Just to note I get my SP from Holland & Barrat - 450mg, time it right and you can get some good deals e.g. 2 for 1.
Has anyone tried the Wellman Hair multi Vit ? Tricologic
appreciate anyone elses thoughts and comments.

i experienced similar sides on propecia than what i did on saw palmetto. except on propecia, they were much more pronounced.

so maybe you will maybe you wont.

taking both might be overkill and it will definitely increase the likelihood of sides.

Cheers Jonny

I've been on propecia &minoxidil for 9 months. First 3/4 months were good but since about October I've been shedding viciously and not really regrowing.

I've decided enough is enough and I'm gonna try something less aggressive. Perhaps my hairloss is too strong and it won't work but I don't think propecia is doing the business for me.

I haven't tried any of the other products you've listed.

Best of luck!

Be Careful. I took Propecia for a couple years. It crushed my sex drive. I am married, and 40, and my wife's drive is much lower than mine, so that was OK, maybe even good. BUT, I started having anxiety/depression type symptoms, and felt very 'OFF'. It just got worse and worse, until I read a post on here by a guy who had all the same things happen to him as I was experiencing, including very specific things not mentioned here. I stopped immediately, and slowly things have returned to normal.

Look, we all are devastated by losing our hair, and looking older than we feel. I understand that, If I didn't I wouldn't be on here looking for the next cure. But to take something every day that can and will cause some harm to yourself is just not worth it.

I believe the stuff works, a LITTLE. You're not going to take six months of this stuff or a year, and look like you did when you were 25...or even 30.

There are safer alternatives. Good luck, and again---BE CAREFUL

Thanks for the responses folk's
I'm still thinking it all over and might try to get a consultation at boots with their hair retention prog, anyone heard much about this?, I expect its just one of the majors jumping on the band wagon and trying to take the cream off the top.
I posted in the Vitamins section a query about a supplement called "Maca" or "Macafen", do any of you know much about this?. I understand that it helps the body restore its natural hormone levels, and some reports on the net state that it has helped women with hair loss, might be worth a try, it also helps with sex drive, woohoo!, I'll try to slip it into he wife's morning cup of tea, lol.
Thanks again and keep you head held high ( so the bastards can't see the top! )

I dont know if this is just weird timing or whether saw palmetto actually caused my hairline to go away.

I've always had a fair hairline but not enough for others to say anything. Maybe I was just too picky and wanted to look like a movie star. So I went on saw palmetto for a couple of months and in that time my hairline started to go so quickly I started to ask how could it fade so fast? Was it a sudden attack of DHT or something with my body not handling saw palmetto.

All I know is I wish I could go back in time and never touched saw palmetto.
