I took Propecia at around the age of 23 having lost a lot of hair (had to shave my head but knocked my confidence badly)... The results were excellent - a ton of regrowth that prompted people to speculate I'd had a transplant. Also had no sides. Fast forward 2 years and I started to thin again badly..
Not sure if this was a so called 'shed' that people refer to (not sure I buy into this theory) or propecia's effectiveness starting to wear off...by the by I was taking no chances as my confidence was back and self esteem. I jumped onto dutasteride.
The results were nothing short of outstanding. I ended up with thick hair (hairline receeded a little and this did not grow but the rest did. significant re-growth and much much more effective than Propecia. Fast fwd 8 years. A long time I know (and this worries me) to be on something so potent. My hairline has remained as strong as ever... i dropped to taking dutasteride 2-3 times a week and it was still as effective. Now... i have started a relationship that is getting very serious and kids discussion has come up. Given I have read it takes 6 months for dutasteride to fully leave the system - I stopped 2 months ago... I can already see a slight change in the strength of my hair and it has thinned slightly on top.
My dilemma and question: If i were to go back to Propecia (which has a much shorter half life) - will this be effective again second time round? (I would plan to take it and stop 2 months before trying for kids properly...). Am not sure given it's effects tapered off 1st time if it would work again? i need a break from dutasteride - that is clear to me. I just want to ensure i can maintain my hair in some way whilst off it.
Thanks
