one week on Propecia and had horribly increased shedding, oily hair and oily face however libido did not go up. Worried that this could end up making my hair worse or having hyperandrogenism
Initial shedding reported is super common, check back in 3-4 months before jumping on something way more potent, and way more likely to cause side effects.
Regardless of what you or I think, one week is far too short of a time to make any determination. Come back in a few monthsI don’t think shedding in the first week is that common, and it’s mostly my thicker longer that are being shed, not the thin hair... from what I’ve seen the oily scalp is a bad sign too
Plenty of people have oily scalps and faces and don't lose hair. There is no correlation of oily scalps and hair loss. Losing a lot of long hairs is a form of Telogen Effluvium. Minoxidil does this all of the time.
Yes but the fact that my scalp and face got significantly oilier with the treat worried me... typically actually have fairly dry skin
Also if Propecia is giving me religion effluvium isn’t that just one more reason not to take it?
If you are going to be worried the whole time then you should stop it. You just need to take it and not look at your hair for 6 months. Just like Acne medications, hair meds make the situation worse first before better usually.
Do you have a scalp itch?
That thing is f*****g scary!Wtf it’s like my hair is coming out in handfuls... hair noticibly thinner in a single night...
That thing is f*****g scary!
Thats much hair bro;
How long have you been taking finasteride? If its under 3 months, i would say don't stop! Wait till 6 months or soNot taking Propecia anymore lol. Don’t know wtf is going on but going to my derm, like if this is Telogen effelium although that doesn’t make sense because the usually comes in 3 months afterwards.
Not sure if it’s reflex hyperandrogeniticity as when I stop I shed less but get the itch on hard, also have no other signs such as acne, increase libido etc. maybe it’s just limited to my hair?
Anyway I’m going to shave my head today, my hair is so thin you can see my scalp and I don’t want to deal with the itch that is going to come up after a week of stopping. It’s a bit depressing going from zero noticible balding to this state but I guess that’s just my lot in life.
If you are losing a lot of thick/healthy hairs then it is Telogen Effluvium which can be caused by things like Finasteride and Minoxidil because they literally start to alter the hair follicle process and shorten telogen. I know it is scary but stopping is unwise.
