I have been experiencing hairloss for a little over a year now. I am a 28 yo female and I have have numerous blood tests and everything all looks fine. However, when my ferritin level was done recently the my level was 28.
My general Doctor says this is fine and within the labs normal ranges which is 8 - 252 ng/mL. I have read a lot about that number needing to be higher. All other iron labs seem normal but I just really want to figure out this hairloss. Id appreciate any help.

Thank you

there is a lot of conflict not his because not much has been studied in this area except a study done by Dr George Costarellis and I think there was anoterh one done by a Doctor in Mid West but sorry i cant think of her name or hospital she is affiliated with.

here is the problem Iron alone will not likely regrow your hair.

You most likely have some kind of genetic hair loss ( look at your family and figure out if hereditary) OR hormones.

Ferritin getting over 60 helped my hair respond better to treatments. I was 10 for many years and told it was fine..but my primary told me in his opinion I am ferritin anemic..he is a DO not an MD so they are more all inclusive in being a Dr and for me it made a difference to have someone like this. SO i do take iron as he directs me and he monitors me.
The difference i saw was my hair stopped short-cycling. (growing an inch falling out) BUT I am also using minoxidil and a topical mild DHT treatment I got from my Dr/pharmacist.

I hope that helps you. Don't do it on your own as it is easy for Iron to be toxic in body. so find a Dr who will work with it with you OR find the study i listed and show it to your Dr.

Hey Pang! I would say 28 is pretty Low. 10 is extremely Low and I received a 14 last year. I took this liquid iron formula called Floradix for around 8 months. Initially, my hair was extremely dry. It was wirey and easily breakable. I was also losing a lot of weight. Obviously if your ferritin levels are Low, you're not necessarily gonna experience the same symptoms as me. The first symptom however is the ffect on the hair because the hair is the first part of the body to respond. I tell my story thoroughly on my profile and the results of taking floradix too! Pls ask me any questions and I'll be happy to answer them! Just click on my profile and then click postings.
