Question for guys who've been on finasteride for a while

As far as bringing back nearly dead follicles where the hair had ceased to grow prior to taking finasteride, are we talking hairs reappearing that you maybe lost within the last 6 months or so? Or do hairs from YEARS back return?...or does it vary greatly from person to person? Curious as to how much regrowth to anticipate.

Varies, but I think the main thing is it stops shedding- which means you have more hairs on your head at the same time- and it thickens the hairs you already have. This means it grows the wispy, shorter hairs that have been damaged by DHT into thicker, darker hairs. This is the main reason diffuse thinners look so thin.

However, if certain hairs have gotten so affected by DHT that the hairs are vellus or so tiny you can barely see it, it's doubtful those will grow back with finasteride. Very very rare cases a person will respond great to finasteride or dutasteride and those hairs grow back.

The silver lining to all this is that male pattern baldness does not "kill" your hair follicle forever. There is still potential for some product in the future to reactivate the follicles and get them growing hair again. That is the product we are all holding our breath for.

No, from what I know. Hair actually does still grow from it, it's just so tiny and colorless that it's essentially not hair.

The problem is nobody yet has a way to "reactivate" the follicle once it has gotten to that stage. That is what many have been waiting for. It's what might happen to some degree with products like Histogen.

Hmm...well, I've read it on different sites, including this one. Checking wikipedia, I found this in the article about male pattern baldness:

"Men with premature androgenic alopecia tend to have lower than normal values of sex hormone-binding globulin, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), testosterone, and epitestosterone when compared to normal controls. Although follicles were previously thought permanently gone in areas of complete hair loss, they are more likely dormant, as recent studies have shown the scalp contains the stem cell progenitors from which the follicles arose."

Oddly enough, there is a citation missing from that part, but if you search for that exact section, you find it reprinted on many different hairloss websites, including this very forum. The curious thing is that when it was posted on this forum years ago from wikipedia, it DID have a citation number after it. It seems that citation was deemed unreliable.

Then again, Histogen has been selling itself as something that can significantly regrow hair. I have seen some people also get peach fuzz/baby hairs from things like RU in places that were previously slick bald. This has also happened to good responders on dutasteride and minoxidil....just look at swisstemples' progress. If there was no hair follicles, hair couldn't grow there, peach fuzz or not. I don't think DHT actually kills the follicle, as that would mean dead tissue....it just stops its ability to produce hair, hence the miniaturization. Others here can correct me if I am somehow completely wrong, perhaps some follicles become dormant in some people and in other people they shut down forever- I don't know for sure. All I know is that I have seen people grow SOME KIND of visible hair in places where they were slick bald- like the temples.

Big_head is quoting the latest known research on the subject. In a way I guess everyone has full head of hair. It's just on bald men you can't see it because the hairs have become so small and have lost the melanin that colors them.

I've seen this observation reprinted in several other studies as well.

Does anyone know a trusted website where you can order Finasteride without a prescription ? I used to order from United pharmacies but they have been a lot of fraud claims.

I used to have one for 1mg, but it is so ridiculously expensive here in the states, my Dr. wont write me a prescription for 5mg to help cut the costs (i would just divide the tablet in 4) after my 1mg prescription ran out I ordered from United pharmacies online, but recently they have been getting tons of fraud claims thrown at them so I wanted to see if there was somewhere else worth looking into.

What are you talking about you can get 30 5 mg pills from Walmart or Target for $9 (costs me $4 because my insurance covers it weirdly enough). I would recommend going to a new doctor.
