Quick Question

Ok so after carefully examining my hair for the past 3 months Ive come to the crushing conclusion that Im thinning in the NW4-5 area. Its diffuse and in relatively early stages. I can still wear my hair in many ways without it being that noticeable. Still its leaning more to the noticeable side and I fear that if I dont do something about it soon, people might start noticing. Anyway at an early stage can taking finasteride be enough. Is it possible to regrow some of the hair ive lost. BTW Im 24 and I think Ive lost about 30% of my original density.

Personally I fall into the category of looking at the whole individual first :)

Are you stressed, any other health issues, lifestyle ok?

I think all these things make a big difference! At least at the stage I'm at at the mo, I look at these things before I look at finasteride!

In answer to your question though... probably. But shoving nizoral in the mix would probably make it even more likely :)

Ive been on nizoral 2% for a couple of years now. Bad case of dandruff so my Dermatologist recommended it and Ive been using it ever since.

My lifestyle is pretty hectic with college, work, paying bills, etc. Im forced to eat a lot of fast food and I dont get the recommended amount of sleep. Other than that Im pretty healthy and I dont have any drinking of smoking problems. Even though Im under a pretty big workload Im very cool headed and I rarely find myself overly stressed. Iv been suspicious about the whole hair loss thing ever since I was 20 when my hair started to settle down and became very straight( my hair used to be slightly wavy but extremely thick and bulky). Since then Ive tried many vitamin supplements and stuff and since things didnt get worse I just let guard down and forgot about the whole thing. Fast forward about 6 months ago i started noticing a see-through quality to my hair under certain lighting conditions.

Honestly Ive read some of your post and find them very interesting but im not sure if I want to gamble my remaining hair. Anyway thanks for the prompt reply.

I do know what you mean :)

Don't forget though all I'm suggesting is that hair loss can often have underlying triggers that are aggravating the follicles, things that are causing hormonal imbalances and inflammation, I'm not saying you can't take things like finasteride as WELL. It's just that in the long run, if there is an underlying factor throwing your body out of balance, then it will be much more permanent and get you a lot more hair back by going for the most likely root cause.

I mean, I'm a noob, I could be wrong, but I suspect myself of thyroid imbalance, stress, bad diet and stuff, and I dunno like, it just makes sense to look inward for solutions. No point shoving more drugs into myself while I suspect I have problems to begin with, right?

But it's different for everyone, and like I say this is by no means saying you shouldn't go for normal treatments as well :)

But yeah, tis up to the individual! :)

You sound like you should see a Doctor and get on finasteride asap. I'm 29 and have been very busy with work and so on for the last two or three years, and didn't pay much attention to my hair. In bathroom mirrors I would occasionally notice a "see through" quality to my hair, but I would shrug it off and chalk it up to the lighting or that my hairline was "always like that." Now my frontal area is very beat up and I'm praying meds will thicken up the existing hairline.

My point is that now that you realize you are going bald you need to do something about it; delaying the inevitable will only make things worse. If you read through the archives you will see that while it's not guaranteed, many young men have maintained and experienced slight to moderate regrowth while on finasteride. I've been on finasteride for three weeks now, and no real sides to speak of, fwiw.
